I have been having trouble getting this to post so I am going to do it in sections

So I got my bike about a year ago. I didn't know anything about riding, nor did I have any mechanical skills. Here she is the day I brought her home.

This past year I have done a few things to her, but nothing real crazy

1. New bars
2. New signals
3. Bar end mirror
4. New starter motor
5. Built a seat
6. Chopped the fender
7. Made a new tail light bracket
8. Made a $20 “touring” rack.
9. Stipped down for paint

Here is how she sits now

I couldn't get my pictures to post correctly on my computer but they seem to post fine from my phone...

Anyway, I knew that the emgo pods on my bike were crappy, but I wasn't entirely sure why. After some research I learned that the carb boot blocked a vent on the carb. I removed the boots from the filters and used a razor to cut out the area that was blocking the vent. I then used ultra black on the boot before putting the filter back to seal up the gap made between the boot and filter.

It was late so I didn't dig the dermel out to shave down the little bit of extra metal from the filter, but I plan on doin that soon. Hopefully this will help improve the airflow and performance while I save up for some UNI filters.

To do list

1. remove tank dent
2. paint tank (I am thinking maroon and grey, but have been tempted to just clear the tank)
3. adjust valves (shims are in the mail)
4. ride to Sturgis
5. buy new bike. I have my eye on a 79 750 twin. it is a basket case. the guy wants $100, which is probably fair, I'm just afraid the project would be way above my skill set.

I discovered a pinhole leak on the side of the tank today.

Anyone have any advice? I have read about a few types of epoxy I might give a shot.

If its a small pinhole and you don't care about the paint, you may want take the tank to a radiator shop. They can boil it clean, solder it and line it with a liner such as Red Kote or what ever have you. Ask what brand of coating they use and research it on here first. Some brands do not have a good reviews. Keep in mind that if its a small pinhole, the area surrounding the hole is very thin. Boiling will remove all rust. Soldering will repair it and the surrounding area and coating it will ensure the tank will stays rust free while at the same time will give it some added strength to the wall.
Gets some referrals on the shop that has experience with this kind of process. Otherwise, it can end up being an expensive nightmare for you. My nephew took his bike to a shop that didn't know what they were doing. They cleaned, coated and painted the tank for him. The coating they used started to dissolve the first time he put gas into it. He first noticed it when he started getting bubbles in the paint from the leaks. Worse part about it, he had started the engine up before he noticed. So all that [rap ran into his carburetors.

I got the tank taken care of. Replaced the front brake pads and am in the process of doing the rear.

Lately I have noticed my rear shocks have been bottoming out a lot. I think after 32 years they are shot, so I'm in the market for some new rear shocks. Suggestions would be great.

I replaced the emgo pods with uni pk92s and have been blown away by the difference.

Next on the list is a gps speedo and 4 into 1.

Those Uni filters are the same I'm getting. Did you rejet the carbs? If not, do you know what size jets your running?

I have heard the optimal setup for pods and a 4into1 is 140 and 70. Some have success with 140/65.

Hey, sorry I missed this post. I am pretty sure the carbs were rejetted because all the caps have been drilled out and what not. I have no idea what the jetting is as it was done one of the previous owners.

Anyone know if it is possible to just remove the mufflers and replace them with after market ones. I don't really want to spend the money on the 4 into 1 as I'm pouring all my extra funds into the 440 I just picked up.
