I'm the proud owner of a bone stock kz1000 - and it was mint until a buddy dropped it last summer. I've been putting some stuff back on it, repainted it, etc, but I decided I was going to go ahead and mod the crap out of it while it wasn't whole, since I didn't have all the stock stuff and stock paint any more.

crated it and sent it off to solomrus, after buying a 1400 kit from APE. he's going to do all the motor work, and i'll be doing the chassis and swing conversion, bracing, etc - along with paint and such details. looking to grab 120hp at the rubber... it's already quick, it's going to be stand up in 5th gear quick now, as well as sound mean and look the part it plays.

What CR are you going to be running with the 1397 kit? What about cams, carbs, etc.?

I just got a set of 38mm RS's for my 1428 project.

Chances are you'll get yours finished before mine and I've only been working on it off and on for 4 years.

hey guys!

he went with the full ape 1400 kit. 435 cams, shim unders, head studs, ti springs.

carbs are still up in the air. he wants it to be exquisitely rideable, which would keep big carbs off the bike. probably thinking 33-36's. while flat slides would be sweet, some cv's might maintain a rideable level of civility. we're still talking about it tho. it might wait until i have the head flowed out to see where the restrictions are.

the cams aren't huge, stock valves, basic port work on the head to flow enough air, 5-angle cut, etc.

i'll snap a few pics of the engine, and tack them here in the build thread.

once it goes together, going to put a few break in miles on it, then take it to the dyno.

ought to be fun.

Have either of you thought about going 1.5mm larger on the intake valve?

It sounds like you guys are building the same engine that I'm putting together.

So far I've got a MTC 1428 13.5:1 kit
Web #109 (.425 lift) cams
38mm Mikuni RS carbs.
Mildly ported Z1 head
37.5mm SS intake valves
Stock size exhaust valves
Appropriate valve springs
Compression releace valves on the outer two cylinders
MTC big block prepped by FBG
Blue-printed, trued and welded Z1 crank by Falicon
HD studs all around.
Machined main cap + plate
Back-cut tranny by FBG
Some other odds and ends

With the higher CR and slightly larger bore I'm hoping for 150HP rwhp.

I'm going to run in Prostar's new for 2008 Street Fighter 9.50 index class, Street ET,and maybe Pro ET.

Keep me and everyone else updated!

Solomrus what CR is that kit is it 13:1 or a 10.25:1?

Streetfighterkz are you going to be running that bike on the street as well or track only?

It's going to be 100% street legal but will spend 97% of its life on the track.

I would at least like to ride it around once or twice and make a few freeway runs to the old bike shop I used to work at.

Not a whole lot of changes since this thread but slowly working on it. I just need to get some 20mm OD tubing for a rear subframe. Oh and LOTS of time!!

I need to take some updated pics of some of the smaller details I've been working on.

that thing looks like it has potential... good luck beating a busa, i want to see video if you do!! mine's probably going to be a little more mild, and i might tweak it later, but it's still going to be fun as shit. I want that seat you have... i've been looking for one used, but i think I'm going to have to end up buying one from corbin.

yeah, that's the whole point of it lol... fun... but god, beating a busa would be fun. I want to blast most of the normal bikes at stoplights, but still ride it to work, so i'm going a tad more mild.

someday, i'll build a dragbike that is the aftermath of a deranged mind in love with KZ's. heheh.
