Hello everyone. My name is Jeff. Just wanted to introduce myself. I live in Ohio and have been wanting an old school bike for quite sometime. My son came to me a few years back and said he wanted to build something. I figured this was my way in. So here we are, his bike is pretty much “finished” and thought it would be cool to get something for myself. Happened across a 1981 Kawasaki GPZ1100. Figured this would be cool to start with. Got it for free has 8000 miles on it. Parked in 1985. Don’t know why. The bike does turn over so there is something to work with. Only problem is there isn’t a title. Would it be worth it to go forward and try to get the title? Here are a few pics of the Kawasaki and my boys Honda CB200 before and after.

Welcome aboard! The GPz 1100 is a great bike. Parked in 1985? man, was still a new bike. Any visible frame damage? Good luck with the project!

Thanks. No it doesn’t look like any damage at all. It’s like it was put away for the winter and never brought back out. Keys were still in the ignition and helmet sitting next to it.

Hello Jeff,
Welcome to KZRider!
The current theory is that you used the "Back" button for those first eight uploads and that caused the "You do not have permission..." BS.
What do you think? Is that how you went back to find the pics you wanted to upload?
Once again, Welcome to KZR.
Bill

LATER: I deleted the first eight images you had uploaded as they were not properly attached, through no fault of yours. I still would like to know if you did, in fact use the "Back" button while selecting them. To do so I had to delete them from the server. Please do upload them again.
Bill

Welcome. Great score. I dont ever seem to be that lucky. I just found a guy that purchased a 1975 Z1B for $1000. You guys did a nice job on the Honda.

Bill thanks for taking care of that. It is quite possible that I did hit the back button. I was wondering why I got that message.

Mikaw thanks for the kind words on the Honda. It was a fun experience. My son picked it up for $400 not running. Tried to keep it relatively cheap, but cool, fun and reliable.

Welcome aboard.
Wow! Finding such a low mileage, unmolested GPz1100 is a bit like finding a unicorn. It was top of the food chain when new, and still very desirable.

Yes, get a title for it. Google Vermont motorcycle title. It's pretty simple. Congrats on that freebie!

I am restoring the same bike. Picked it up in June. And <drum roll> got it for free, as the spare parts it came with, exceeded the purchase price.

I have always wanted one since they came out. And there it was on Craigslist. Magic.

Each state has its own laws and procedures for replacing a lost title. You should check with your local office. Your state may have a very simple procedure. The Vermont solution works to bypass states with really onerous procedures, but may not be accepted where you are. Check first.

To add to this great advice. check with your states DMV. Some states do not require titles to plate a bike because of their age. Worth a couple of phone calls to save some money.

Thanks everyone. I have checked into getting a title here in Ohio. Pretty much have to jump through hoops. Fill out a bunch of paperwork, certified letters to previous owner (deceased), state inspections, visit the courthouse, see a judge with all your evidence, and then the judge can grant or deny your request for the title. Looked into the Vermont deal and it doesn’t seem overly complicated. If I go that route and can’t get it titles here after the Vermont registration I’ll just keep it registered there. Can’t wait to get this hurdle out of the way so I can get started on this. Has anyone here gone the Vermont route?
