Just bought an 83 KZ550 LTD. Not a huge fan of the step seat. Curious if another model's "flatter" seat will fit the bike.

Other than the gpz, not to my knowledge. Get brave and shave it and recover it yourself
Keep the shiny side up!!!!

Other than the gpz,..

GPz550 kz550 forget it, totally different.

If you are going to shave it, use one of those sanding wheels that fits on a grinder, Do it outside, it is a very dusty job.

Some say an electric carving knife is a good tool for shaping foam. gobble gobble.

I've read that too, just the foam needs to be really smooth so as not to show through the cover, so
basic shaping maybe with the knife but final smoothing and getting the curves right with a sanding disc.

Seats are difficult, trying to get whats in your mind's eye into that block of cheese like yellow seat foam.
Currently on about my 6th Lawson seat, so difficult to get right. Anyone got a spare ELR foam?

As a practical matter, the stepped seat helps to keep the rider from sliding backwards, and the shape of the 550-Ltd seat probably also helps to keep the passenger in place as well.

If there's a seat cover kit that includes the foam already shaped for the cover, that might be an easier install than trying to shape the foam yourself. I'm thinking there might be something for a 550A that could be adapted to the Ltd seat pan --- might still be a pain, though.
