Hi all, I have a kzp that I'm doing some remodeling on. I would like to increase my fuel capacity while retaining my gas cap, petcock, and fuel gauge. I noticed the tank on an Eddie Lawson Replica has the greater capacity I'm looking for. Is that style specific to that bike or was it a standard for that year? Will it be hard to find or an eBay thing
Thanks for any help, Rich

Very hard to find, ELRs were a limited run bike and big bucks now, probably looking at something like $500 if you're lucky for a tank that MAY fit.

so that style/shape is only found on the ELR. Is there another squareish one from another model that is compatible? I didn't pay much attention back when they were building them because it was depressing seeing the direction the designers were heading. (But now it looks kinda cool)

I'm thinking on a fuel cell in my top box.

You can find a squarish tank on Mark 2's (also very rare)...but they also come on 1000 ST (shaft drive). That may be a better bet as they are not as desirable as the others. As Floivanus mentioned, there will probably be issues/fabrication in getting whatever tank you want to fit your bike but why not !! If you go that route make and keep some templates as others may also be interested doing something similar.

The 1000ST has a very narrow backbone compared to the standard kzs, you'll have to hack the tunnel out (don't cut your frame)

If you are desperate for a bigger tank, find a chopper or fabrication shop, have them section your tank and widen it. Or, the old gl1000 had very rare side covers that were auxiliary fuel tanks, you could make something similar to fit your bike, BUT those bikes had fuel pumps. You'd need one yourself to make it work
