Hey Guys,

I have a caliper part that I have yet to locate on a schematic. It's a front KZ caliper aprox......77 though 80. It has bleeder in front closest to fork tube. The part is inserted into the caliper piston bore.

Any idea on the name and Kawasaki part number on the pictured item.

I never seen a part that looked like that when I rebuilt the calipers on my 80 LTD 1000

Ya Pete......I have two sets and all four calipers have them. Wondered what they do, name and part number. They are there.....?????

The Z1 & KZ900 don't have them in the schematic picture either. Not meant to be a serviceable part. I'm surprised a rebuild kit has them
They are what holds the lip of the dust shield on. The one that's a pain to slip on. *TRICK* To doing it: get the boot around that metal ring 1st, Then pull it up and stretched open, then slide the "brake grease coated" piston thru, keep working the dust sheild up until piston is pushed in enough to seat the other end of the shield into the groove on outer side of piston
They are plain steel. After the Factory black anodizes the aluminum caliper black and cleans the bore. They are pressed in.
They pry out easy, press back in. I always popped them out before I glass beaded caliper bodies.
I have never seen new ones anywhere though. I wish I had some over the years.
The Guy who makes all the stainless steel parts should make some. So they don't start the corrosion process over the long term.

Issue solved.

This metal collar holds the rubber dust boot tight to the caliper. Without this metal piece, the dust boot doesn't seal. it will just move up and down with the piston and let dirt and debris in.

This is a picture of caliper with the ring not installed. You can see that there is nothing to complete seal to caliper. The piston seal/boot just rides up and down with piston and doesn't seal.

This is a picture with ring installed. The bottom lip of the piston seal/boot goes in a grove created by the ring and seals.
