I bought an inexpensive ignition coil but it's a bit smaller than the original and won't fit the OEM bracket. They didn't seem to offer a bracket of their own. Any suggestions? Will I just have to modify the existing bracket? It's a 1980 KZ 440 LTD.

Thanks!

Many wonderous things have been done with aluminum flat stock, angle brackets, stacked washers, spacers and long bolts. Use your imagination but make sure the coil/wires don't interfere with the tank or anything else.

Yeah, making brackets and other "custom" parts is what makes your bike truely YOURS. Besides, it's great fun.

L-brackets from the hardware store might work. I made brackets from aluminum angle bar from the home depot.

prototype.

I made some out of scrap stainless sheet left over from adapting a ZR7 fender delete kit to fit my GPz750.

It's sometimes helpful to remember when attaching the coil in position that the coil need NOT be grounded and will perform even if suspended in mid-air.

Good Fortune! :)

Mounted to the frame provides a heat sync to cool the coil. It is best to have them firmly bolted to the frame.

I ran into the same thing when using an Emgo coil on my 76 KZ400. IIRC I used one of the existing holes and just drilled a new hole in the bracket for the other bolt and used a nut on the back. I used the stock spacers.
