If I lay my fingers on the plug wires while the bike is running I feel some electricity being inducted into my hand. Is some feeling of electricity normal? its not like im getting zapped the way I would if I pulled the wire off the plug. the coil and wires seem original its a 1980 kz750 LTD 4 cyl and I just put new NGK BR8ES in it. Thanks in advance!! trying to get this old Betty up to snuff

The insulation breaks down over the years, new 7mm plug wire and caps is a good place to start. There is about 30 000 volts coming from those coils, but low current so unless you have a pacemaker it is fairly safe. Some modern cars run at 100 000 volts.

(Unless your hand is made of metal then it is conducted not induced)

Does your 80 kz750 have resistor caps like my 82 does? If so you probably shouldn't be running resistor plugs (BR8ES vs B8ES) with resistor caps as well.

If you are feeling anything on the outside of the plug wires then I'd say it is time to change them since they aren't doing their job properly.

Your wires are leaking and should be replaced.
I prefer to go to the auto parts store and get a couple of automotive wires. Then you can also toss the expensive motorcycle plug caps as well.

well I put B8ES non resistor plugs in it. I don't feel anything anymore but its still not runnin right. I assumed a coil at first because the 2 inside cylinders appeared to have shut off, when I limped to a parts store. both inside exhaust pipes were cool to the touch. But Im pretty sure one coil runs 1&3 and the other runs 2&4. I dunno Im away from the bike right now

probably time for some coils huh? its only got 15,000 miles but I guess the stock ones can start to suck over time... 2&3 weren't firing, and I just went through the carbs, new o rings, bowl gaskets and float valves. unlikely 2 carbs stopped at the same time then started working again without touching them

If the wires are long enough from 2 & 3, switch them with 1 & 4, & see if 1 & 4 stay cool to the touch , & then you'll know It's your coil
Mlleage doesn't matter with coils, but age does

Have you checked the plugs on 2 and 3? Are they wet with gas? Could they have built up enough deposits to not fire properly?...

What happened before the running problem started?

2&3 were wet with gas come to think of it. I forgot about that. so yea not a carb issue. and I just bought the bike and have only ridden in 30-40 miles. the other day though it was hard to start even on full choke. eventually did then stalled. but cyl 4 was cool this time. I wish I had an infrared thermometer sometimes. the old "slap the pipe real quick" trick sucks. and the plugs weren't built up very bad at all. I just changed em on a prayer
