That new R/R should have the Big Red wire and a Big black wire, then the three yellows.
TO hook Up, Yellows match up, then The Black wire to the original Black/ Yellow, Then the Red to the original Red/ White. Brown not Used.
If you have it hooked up this way, and using your meter check the voltage across the battery terminals at 4000 RPM. It shouldn't be over 15 volts DC.
If it is over 15v, then you either have a bad battery or bad connection to the battery. So the original Black/yellow is the ground, and the battery negative cable goes to the engine block, it could be a bad connection. You can add a wire to the ground, between the negative battery terminal and the chassis frame.
Make sure your battery is good, have it tested. A bad battery will make the R/R see that it is low, and the voltage will increase.

Well, looks like the old "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" mantra rings true in this situation...either the brown wire is necessary to have or I just got a bad regulator. Put the old regulator back on and it runs just fine. Fine by me! Thanks for the help guys. Just crated my bike up, moving to Puerto Rico!
