Hi, I just bought 3 ohm green dyna coil for kz 1000j 81,
I just wondering if my bike has ballast resistor? and how can I connect this dyna coil.

Here's the wiring diagram from KZr FILEBASE.

The ignition coil circuit doesn't show a resistor.

Connections are the same as with stock coils.
Port-side coil (with black primary wire) attaches to outside spark plugs #1 and #4.
Starboard-side coil (with green primary wire) attaches to inside spark plugs #2 and #3.

I have never heard of ballast resistors in KZ bikes.

Hi, am looking into replacing the coils and wires on my 1980 kz1000 LTD B4, this bike has the stock electronic ignition and does have a ballast resistor in the wiring for the coils. It is located forward of the coils attached to the frame, it can be seen easily, it looks like a block of white ceramic about 1/2" square and 2" inches long. Going to 3 ohm plus coils it is recommended to just join the two wires connected to it (red and pink) together and remove it.
