oh the fun continues.....the first three locksmiths that I called, they dont do motorcycle keys, the fourth one looked up the numbers on the bottom of the lock for me over the phone and said it could be one of three different cuts, and he wasn't sure if the key it listed would even work on that old of a motorcycle. the number he looked up was Z5353. He said to bring in the lock and they could maybe figure out which key went to it.

If you post a new thread about keys for an ignition, you will probably get a reply from Rstnick. Rob is the resident goto locksmith here. I think he may have more good info about KZ keys. There is even a chance he can make one.

I found this thread while working on the wiring for my 81 kz550 and followed your advice on connecting the brown,white and yellow wires to see if i had fixed my wiring issue to which i believe i have. My question is when i hit the start button all that it does is click, is this normal? Or does it mean i need a new starter?

Or new battery, or charge the battery, or new solenoid, or wiring to the solenoid, or wiring to the starter, or wiring to the battery.
