Thanks for the photos. That does make it easier.

That regulator, looks to me like a combo regulator/rectifier, which is what should be on the G1. The starter relay looks a little strange to me, but I don't know the 750 twin very well. The starter relay should have the battery cable going to it. It should also have the heavy cable going to the starter.

I would post a seperate thread asking about the starter relay ID. Someone with more 750 twin knowledge will chime in.

Here's what I have so far. The relay is a standard auto relay you should be able to get at most parts stores.

Hi loudhvx,

You've really helped a lot of people in this thread. I was wondering if you have a little extra time for me? I've got a 78 KZ650 C2 and found the following wiring diagram:

diagrams.kz650.info/wiring/images/KZ650-B2,C2.jpg

That's helpful, but I'm planning on cutting out a lot and having only the following:
-No ignition, no indicators, no horn, no speedo, no tach, no hazards
-Yes to headlight (with hi/lo), taillight, and turn signals
-A hidden on/off switch
-A hidden starter switch

Would you mind creating a bare bones diagram for this? I would really appreciate it!

Yeah, no problem. Do you know what starter and ignition switch you will use? Will you keep the kill switch? Sticking with points?

Hey, sorry for the false alarm but I'm going to stick with the stock wiring until I get it running right. Afterwards I'll do something more custom and probably come back here ;-). Thanks for the reply tho!

1979 kz650 for grabber.
Drag to the desktep to see in full resolution.
This is for the U.S. models. I don' know if the U.K. models will have variation.

Ignore the stuff to the right of the arrows. That's just for lighting in case you need it in the future. But it would require an ignition switch so the lights won't be on all the time.

Hi loudhvx,

I'm back and hoping you can help me out now that I have my plan straight. Again, I have a 78 KZ650 C2 with the following wiring diagram:

diagrams.kz650.info/wiring/images/KZ650-B2,C2.jpg

BUT, my bike didn't come with right hand controls so I found one from a C3:

diagrams.kz650.info/wiring/images/KZ650-B3,C3.jpg

You'll notice the C3 right controls has a mystery yellow wire going to the ignition, and no headlight on/off switch which has me a bit confused.

Will you please help me with a wiring diagram based on the C2, with the C3 right controls, and with the following "deletes":

-No hazards
-No horn
-No speedo or tach
-No front indicators (turn signal indicators, neutral, high beam, oil, brake light fail)
-No starter lockout switch

Since I have no headlight on/off switch I'd like them to be on when I turn on the ignition key (ignition is off/on/park). Also, I will be using points for the time being.

What do you think? Doable?

I tripled up on the ignition switch contacts to make the ignition switch more reliable. As it's drawn, the input and output of the ignition switch will have 3 wires tied together. Input will be red and two whites. Output is brown, blue, and orange/green. THe blue may actually be blue with a red stripe, or red with a blue stripe.
