I removed the pick ups and magnets from the plate, making sure not to flip or reverse the magnets.
I traced the 650 plate onto the 1000's with a pencil.
Then I used a bench grinder to slowly remove some material where needed. I drilled the two lower mounting holes and slotted them with some hand files (flat and round ones).
I did the final plate adjustments with the hand files.

well you have certainly gone through the growing pains for me thats for sure ROb, nice job again. I will keep you posted of my progress, I think the 750 LTD harness I bought has the same wiring as the 1000 plate i picked up, so my wiring should be the simple part, just splice it into my 650 harness where applicable and use factory wiring to the ignitor.....fingers heavily crossed...

Nice going rstnick. I've been watching this thread. Very interesting. Sounds like you are ready to ride. I've been thinking about the WG coil mod and I know that if I ever give it a shot I'll be in touch you.

xstreamcanadian- I was lucky to have a spare but mangled wiring harness from my '79, so I used wire bits and connectors for all the wiring to allow me to be able to just unplug and swap back to the points if the conversion didn't work out. I did need to cut out the blue/red wire from the points wiring harness, I think that was the color, for the Oil pressure switch located under the points. Again I used a spare one from the '79.
The five wires now going into the bottom of the engine into the points area are larger than the pevious three wires, so I had to cut the rubber gromet to allow some more room.

JR- The WG wiring mod was easier than I thought it would be, and will gladly help you and anyone anyway I can. I used plugs and connectors for everything, as well as soldered the wires where spliced on and used shrink wrap (I would cut a length of wire off my '79 harness with a plug/connector attached and add it where needed, soldered on), so that I could easily unplug and switch it all back if needed. Finding dual female connectors from my '79 wiring harness was important as the black/yellow ground wire ended up having to be connected to by 3 different components in my case (the Igniter, coil relay and wherever the ground wire went to to begin with) as well as the red/power lines.

Well I took her out for a spin after work today.

She started up fine considering it was 6*C/ 43*F out. A little choke to help get her going. I rode down to the end of the block, and at the stop sign, she started to run only on two cylinders. I thought I better turn back around and try to make it home. Start moving again and all 4 cylinders kick in. I go to the end of the street (we live on a Dead End street) and she seems fine. I decide to try again. Turn around and head for the stop sign. Still running OK at the sign, so I decide to go further. I ended up going to a gas station that's about 5~10 minutes away. Fill her up, and head home.

The advancer is working properly. I reved it over 6000 rpm at least before I switched gears. I only got up to third gear as I don't want to go too wild until I get used to the new feel of the Clubman Bars etc. Still got upto 90 kph/ 56 mph, and I was going through an 80 kph Zone.

I have a few issues to look into:
1 - Have to figure out why the engine almost died at the stop sign.
2 - The Rickman Fairing seems to bounce too much on bumps, at the front end, so I need to check and maybe add some bracing.
3 - The chin scoop is a little loose, and needs tightening up. It moved and touched the exhaust. I did have it on at the end of last year for some long rides and had a better fit.
4 - I used to be able to see everything behind me in my two convex mirrors. I now only have one left hand bar end mirror, which is nowhere near as good.

Over all as far as I can tell for a 15 minute ride, the riding position with the clubman bars was fine, I did not have to lean over too far. The fairing seemed to flex/wobble in the wind somewhat, but it was a windy day.
.
