Hi,

I have removed rust from the tank and want to reinstall the gas levele transmitter, but I have problem to get it gas proof.
I have two of the transmitter, because I damage the orginal one.

If I try to take som plastic around the damage one and mount it, there are no problem no leak...
Please see pictures.

But when I install the "new" one, cannot get it proof... it leaking.. cannot understand it.
I believed it was the cable implementation who has a leak, So I used some 2 component glue around it to get it gas proof...
But It dident help still leaking....

Is there anytbody other who had problem with these ? had some good experiecen how I can fix it?

Please see attached pictures.

The sensor on my 750 leaked from around the rubber grommet. I took the sensor and soaked it in a cup of gasoline for a couple of hours and the rubber swelled up and hasn't leaked since.

Have you installed a new O-Ring in the O-Ring groove of the gas level transmitter mounting plate?
Use some copper or aluminum washers under screws to prevent leaking there.

Exactly. Make sure the groove for the o-ring is clean of any of your glue and use a new o-ring. See image below for part number. Ed

If you don't have a new oem o-ring, you can use one from a metric nitrile o-ring kit. or viton o-ring kit.
An oblong o-ring is easier to install, but a round one can be used.

As for the washers, the stock washers are plastic --- either nylon or polyester.

My fuel level switch was leaking around the red plate, so I sealed it with Permatex liquid metal.
Seal-All might be another product that could be used.

The red plate was loose on my transmitter, and as fare as I could see the gas was coming out around it, so I tried to seal it by using two componenet glue on the inside.

When you say rubber grommet are taking about the rubber "gasget" around the plate?
Or are we talking about the cable cable access? If we talking about the cable access, will it maybe be a problem now since I have had glue on it.. so the oil will not get access?

I only applied the epoxy around the red plate, on the outside.
Mine was just seeping fuel, so it wasn't a bad leak or anything.
Permatex liquid metal is a 1-part product that comes in a tube --- no mixing.
I've heard good things about Seal-All, but I have never used it.

I posted a picture showing the rubber o-ring. I circled the o-ring and its part number in red. Please take a look at it and see if your bike has it in place. If you bike does not have that o-ring it WILL leak! Ed

I think he means the rubber grommet that seals the wiring on the side that has the red plate.. See Nessism's photo.

I have checked the o-ring and its 100%, it can be that it`s to tinn, so when I use the plastic it get thicker maybe...
I can try the oil hint from Nessism, but I`m not sure that is the problem...

I also have a oring set, can try with a new one, but they are circle form and are also thicker...

it would be nice if I found a away to test it instead of useing the tank with gas inside etc.. but I havent found a good way to test it...

The thickness of the o-ring doesn't really matter. It just needs to fit into the groove & seal against the tank. I used one from my HF o-ring kit. There were a couple of sizes that would work. Installing a round o-ring into an oblong groove takes some dexterity, but it can be done. :)
