Was looking at foam instead of normal pods, wanting to do something different with this build. Anyone have thoughts on them?

I put foam Uni brand pods on my Yamaha XS400 back in 1983. In other words they have been around a while. I'd much rather use this type of filter compared to some junky generic Emgo pods which are a poor facsimile of a K&N. Hell, if you were to install "real K&N's" that would constitute "something different" compared to most chopped up modded bikes I've seen lately that seem to routinely use the Emgo's. One drawback of the Uni's though is that the foam deteriorates faster than a K&N.

Beware of the cheaper brands, Emgo etc.
They actually flow less than the stock airbox and can restrict performance and cause over rich running.
Go for K&N, Pipercross or Uni filter.

I have real good luck with Unifilters in the past.

In my opinion, the Uni's flow almost as much as open velocity stacks.

I am only one main jet size smaller on my RS36's with Uni's than the RS36's with open stacks!!!

I run velocity stacks with a foam filter over them.

Thanks everyone! Think I'll be ordering some after all is up and running again. I hadn't thought of velocity stacks and filters.....might be cool!

Not to high jack too much…. but how do you like them, I have been thinking of trying those on one of my bikes but wonder if its worth it.
I am running K&N pods now on it and it carburets' very well so I have been hesitant to change, I don't know if theres room for improvement.
Some have said there will be a good difference, not a gain pre say, but just better smoother overall throttle response.

Did you go from air box to those or from pods to those?
I believe its called "Oppositional Defiance Disorder"

Ordered one RAMAIR set before Christmas, and three weeks of dreary-winter will have passed by the time it gets to my door.
So why did I put the air box back on my bike. :silly:  :side:
