I had some kinks in these and so I decided to replace the whole lot with new silicone vacuum hoses. I know some of you might want to tell me to tear out all of the emissions stuff but I don't want to do that. :)

Basically they're all interconnected and the one in the foreground is the one that goes to the petcock. The longer one goes to the air switch valve near the front of the bike.

My question is: Is this the correct configuration for my motorcycle? (1987 KZ 1000 Police). Should I set it up a different way or is it ok to just re-do the same way with the new hoses? I have three different manuals and none of them are very much help with this issue.

One last question: Where should the fuel hose really run? In the manuals I have (which all seem to have pictures taken with a pinhole camera) the fuel line looks to come out close to the air box but mine was coming up closer to the front of the bikeā€¦

Thanks in advance.

Better pics would help. The 550 had two lines coming from 1&4 intake manifolds going to the T connection then one to the air valve. The fuel line has a T that can swivel back to the front. The petcock had one line going to #2 intake manifold. #3 was capped. Some carbs have a nipple for the petcock line built in. On the back above the bowls are two vent nipples.

"Better pics would help. "

Yeah, it was tricky to get in there for pics.

The first picture shows exactly how they were lined up. The first two shorter vacuum hoses went to the first two carbs and the longer one in the foreground went to the petcock. Then the other two shorter ones went to three and four with a branch to the switch.

Somebody redid the tubing more complicated than it needs to be. Look at the air filter diagram at Partzilla to see the tubing configuration of the clean air system. The small vacuum tubing typically goes to the #1 & #4 carburetor vacuum ports.

The petcock vacuum connection is a separate thing with a tube going to the #2 carb vac port. the #3 carb vac port is capped.

Thanks everyone for your help. I think I"m starting to piece it together now.

So setting it up in the stock way won't affect how it runs? ie: the way my carbs are synced

I guess I need to buy a couple of plugs for the carb nipples.

Which vacuum hose runs to the petcock nipple?

I have an '88 kz1000-p7 that looks just like your picks. I removed all that nonsense that connects the exhaust valves to the air box. To do that connect the two exhaust valve cover hose ports together with one hose. Then cap the hole in the airbox. Then put nipples on carb vacuum ports 1, 3, and 4. Carb vacuum port 2 connects to the petcock.
Nothing lasts, nothing is finished, and nothing is perfect.
