fatcat70 Topic Author Offline User Posts: 18 Thank you received: 0	I just bought a 1980 kz550 ltd a week ago. I cleaned the carbs and got it running. However it seems to be running rich. There are dry carbon deposits on The spark plugs and black smoke coming out of the exhaust pipes as well as a raw fuel smell. My question is how do I lean out the fuel/air mixture? 1980 kz550 LTD

I couldn't find tubing that fit the overflow nipples that well so I've been guessing on the float heights (over several itterations) based on how much gas was spilling out. 1980 kz550 LTD

Autozone has tubing for lawn mowers that will fit. Napa has tubing that will fit. You could even go to Ace hardware. It doesn't have to be fuel rated its only going to be used for a short while to get the levels right. This is a very important step to carb tuning.

You bend the float arms then the tang is for FINE adjustments. Carbs 1 and 2 are leaking gas out of the little holes in the bottom of throat (see picture) but the fuel in those clear tubes isn't quite to the level of the gasket.
