81-84 GPZs were with fuel injection, it would be nice to get one.
I had 86 GoldWing with fuel injection, it worked fine.

Depends on what you need repaired, not much to fuel injection systems really. You have throttle bodies, throttle position sensors, fuel injectors, mass air or manifold absolute pressure, intake air temp sensor, and idle air control. A fuel pump, pressure regulator and return fitting. The computer would be the harder part for it, they go bad, finding a good one may be the issue here.

I've thought about it, but when you can pick up a set of 28s for $100, it hasn't made sense to me to try the swap

From what I understand parts are obsolete.

Yes, parts are obsolete, but there's a few parts that cross over, a fuel pump that works, a wiper type TPS could be easily adapted, injectors are bosch numbers, computer would need replaced with a microsquirt or the like if it was bad.

I've toyed withthe thought, custom intake, modified dodge truck fuel rail, mustang injectors, and a GM throttle body off a small car (1.9L saturn?) should be workable, and all crap I have laying around, but like I said, $300+ for a computer is a bit of a hinderance.

Have a 1984 GPz1100 for sale here locally less than 3 k miles not licensed since 87, seller says it's very original. Pictures tell otherwise, it's a very clean bike, but has carburetors and likely a Dynatek ignition from the plug wires, it seems the mods were done close to 87, so even then the fuel injection was a problem. It's not selling in a hurry either, I don't think the Uni-track bikes are very popular, if it was just about any other model I'd be all over it given condition, miles and price. Shame it's not an 82.

Not necessarily, even today the vast majority of people tend to act like fuel injection is some magical voodoo, I've seen well supported cars get "all that crap torn off and a holley put on" cuz it runs better. Which is never the real truth EFI will always be a better setup

What I meant by "a problem" was unreliable and very expensive to fix, which I recall it had a reputation for, I was always glad I'd bought the 1000J not the GPz1100 for that reason. Many bikes quickly ended up with carbs replacing the fuel injection because if it went bad, it cost about a 1/3 of the cost of the bike new, to fix. If it was out of warranty then the carb option was the way people went.

I agree fuel injection is better than carbs for obvious reasons in terms of function and efficiency, however if it's proves unreliable it's not something most will be able to repair when most are not capable of cleaning or rebuilding a set of carbs, so it wasn't "better" for most people in 1982-1984. Thankfully things have moved on and fuel injection is not only better but very reliable too, so it is better for everyone because you don't have to worry about all the issues you can have with carbs, you can just turn the key and go, park it for the winter and go again. However still on a 30+ year old bike I'll still take Mikuni carbs with parts available all over the place, over a dodgy fuel injection system with no aftermarket support and obsolete and unobtainable parts that I wouldn't want to afford if they were still available.

google search = site:kawasakimotorcycle.org mfolks fuel injection

In the resulting topics Mfolks has provided some info & a number of links --- I believe he has a FI GPz 1100.
MPS Racing is the only place I recall that has FI stuff.
