Can anyone recommend pods for a 1977 kz650c (I believe they are 39mm) that are rust proof? Is there a performance difference or pros/cons to stainless steel vs. foam?

Best recommendation -

Keep the air box. It will give you better overall performance on your stock KZ650 than you would get with pods. If you currently have performance issues do a TUNE-UP because pods are not going to correct a performance issue. Ed

I bought the bike about a year ago with pods on them. In order to not worry about the rain (I live in tropical So. FL) I put an original box on. The performance difference was greatly lowered with box. So I'm going back to pods. I'll keep the box on hand though.

The performance was greatly lowered with the box? Did you rejet the carbs back to the stock jets, needle settings, etc? If not, that would explain it. Ed

UNI (brand) pods, are by far the best, from my experience and from what ive learned. I run them, and my bike runs fine. you will need to rejet to stock if you plan to run the airbox, othrwise, get UNI pods and a can of UNI spray oil....

Its not impossible to run pods, despite what alot of forum members will say.

its a personal choice....

My roommate has a 82 kz1000 with pods and aftermarket 4 into 2 mufflers and we re-jetted it two sizes bigger on the pilots and the mains and that thing is screaming quick. One may have to experiment to get it right. we got jets from jetsrus.com

:) I've had a number of bikes over the years that were easy to start and screaming quick at WOT!
But had mediocre fuel economy, a pain in the ass off idle or throttling between lower midrange settings in traffic, which is about 90% of all riding on the street.
