Hey out there, I'm a do it yourselfer who's trying to figure out how and why I have a fuel leak on this bike. It is leaking like a sieve from a black square rubber piece under the air box, or right behind the carburetors'. Any advice is welcome.

Hi Denmonster, welcome! Probably not the best suited site for your XS1100. Would be better off and get more bike specific expertise at www.xs11.com. Having said that, it sounds like one or more of your float valves is getting stuck and flooding the system with gas. I will venture to say that you may have also got fuel into your crankcase as well. Your fuel petcock also sounds like it is not functioning properly. I am not sure but I think you have a vacuum type petcock. If you put the valve on prime that means the fuel is on matter if the engine is running or not. If the petcock is on 'on' or reserve, then it should only deliver fuel when the engine is cranking or running. So that could be malfunctioning. But even if the petcock was faulty, the float valve in each carburetor should stop any fuel from entering the bowl once it is filled to the desired level. So it sounds like one of them is faulty. Go to the xs11 webesite and the can be more specific about your bike. Good luck.

I had one of them in my shop. Nice Bike. :) Do the clear tube test on the float bowels. The owner brought it in with a peanut tank on it. He cut off two of the back bone rails to fit the tank. I got it running great but put NOT FOR USE ON THE STREET. He didn't like that.
What a waste.
