So, I am trying to get my carbs dialed in. I have fixed the main jet problems but I still cannot get all 4 carbs running at 20cm Hg, or eve around that. I can loosen one one slide and get 3carbs to run around 15 cm but when I try to dial in the last carb the motor dies. Any reason why this may be? (pilots too small etc...)

How many rpm is the engine turning while you are trying to sync the carbs? Ed

Unfortunately, I dont have a tach hooked up so I cant say. I would have to guess not very high. By the sound of the bike sub 1000.

Too low. You do need a tach to be accurate. Try with the RPM's at around 1200. When you get them even, things will change.

Right. You need a tach so you know where your idle is set. Even if you hook one up temporarily; although I can't imagine why you would not want one mounted for use when riding. If you have a dwell meter it will have a tachometer function that you can use when adjusting the idle speed. If your bike still using contact points in the ignition system you should have a dwell meter anyway in order to accurately set the points. Ed

Any reputable brand should be fine. A while back I I bought a really nice one (MAC Tools ET985 - see image below) from eBay for very little money. If you're not in a hurry eBay often has decent deals. Ed

Harbor Freight sells a multi-meter with an induction pick-up that works just fine for under $30. Yes it's cheap but if you only use it once or twice a year it works just fine.
