i need to get this bike fine tuned and I was wondering if some of you could get me in the ball park of where i need to be.
1982 750e (4)
vance and hines 4-1
pods
dnyo-jet carb kit
Keihim carbs

at the momment i am running my needle on the #4 groove, 136 main, 65 primary and #35 for the piolt.
the bike seems running hot/ lean ( rpms are hanging, blueing of my new pipes and a slight hestiation between 2000-3000 RPM)
giving my current setup and living at sealevel - im looking for jetting suggestions.
i just recieved these carbs back and the current jetting seems crap.
sorry if this is beating a dead horse
cheers,
Eric

i just realized that the air/fuel screws may only be 1/2 out. i was told they were turned in until the bike began to bog down than turned them out 1/2 turn. do you think i would be better starting here apposed to changing any jets/ needle positions?

Those screws should be about 2 turns out for stock setting. Not sure how they should be with a grooved needle jet and Dyna jet kit but am thinking 2 turns out from lightly seate would be a good starting point.

Easy to try. Worth a shot. After that adjust 1/4 turn at a time.

You may also want to check carb fuel service level.

ya i check float hieght and seemed even across the board, they were set with a set of calipers. i will check the fuel mixture screw asap. im wondering if my jetting set up seems like a common set up 136/65/35

As JR suggested, You may also want to check carb fuel service level.

Which is done by performing the clear tube test.
With fuel level being within specs, float height is irrelevant.

Good Fortune! :)

When I had K&N pods pm my 1980 750/4 E1 with Mac 4 into 1 exhaust I had 135/62/35 and it was fine. I went to 140/70/35 and felt it was better. However. That was without an adjustable needle or Dyna jet kit so you will have to play around.

Also. Patton is right - setting float height rather than fuel height is waste of time.

You say you just got your carbs back but were they cleaned or just jet kit installed? I have a mac 4-1, uni pods, and a dynajet kit. When i installed it i followed their directions and suggested jetting and my bike gets good power throughout the band. I didn't touch the idle circuit.

yes the were cleaned and assembled with new gaskets and seals. do you reemember your jetting? im pretty sure mine is set exactly as recommended. needle on groove #4, 136 main , 65 primary, and 35 pilot. minus the slight hestation at 2-3k the power felt great. i then noticed the rpms hanging and most of all the blue pipes. i will have to check air/fuel screw first.
thanks

Are they CV carbs? From the sound of it they are. Check the diaphrams. You may have a leak. Lift the slide, put your thumb over the vent at the top and see if it stays or falls slowly. If not, they're shot.

I will check the diaphrams. I reset the air/ screws to 2 turns out for now. But I just re read the directions on the dynojet kit, it suggest with the stage 3 setup ( 136 mains, 65 primary, and 35 pilot, and 4th clip on the needle, for pods and 4-1)
3 1/2 turns out from seated.
I'm hoping with that adjustment it may clear up the hesitation I had early in my rpm range.

I would folow the instructions from the dynojet kit and go 3 1/2 turns out. As I said earlier stock was 2 turns out but I have no idea what it should be with the dynojet kit and I think you just answered that.

I hear people report good results with that kit and Its usually good to follow the instructions
