Is there a way to use the clear tube method on my 82 GPZ750 BS34 carbs. Im having trouble getting the floats set right using dial calipers with the carbs upside down. Am I doing it wrong or what ? All I have to install a clear tube on is the carb drains, will that work ok ?. Thanks for any help

Yes on the clear tubing.

If not already done would try loosening -- do not remove -- the drain screw in order to obtain fuel flow from the nipple on bottom of float bowl where the clear tube attaches.

When the drain screw is in its normal tightened position, only the overflow circuit discharges from the nipple on bottom of float bowl.

The overflow circuit is not used for the clear tube test.

The float bowl drain is used for the clear tube test.

82 GPZ750 carbs don't have the drain screw on the bottom, they drain out the side hole that isn't an overflow. If they overflow it goes in the engine Im pretty sure. I could be wrong but these are emissions carbs. I do have a set of 34mm CV float bowls off a GS1100 Suzuki that Ill try & see if they fit. Maybe I can use those to hook the tubing to if they fit. Otherwise Im dead in the water with no place to hook the clear tube to. Is there a certain angle you place the carbs to set the floats ? It shows then just upside down in the shop manual

For some carb designs having a simple float bowl drain screw, there's a special fitting available that screws into the drain hole with a nipple for attaching the clear tube.

Usually, the special fitting is unnecessary, as the correct size plastic tube may be self-threaded into the drain hole without significant leakage.



Take one of the drain screws to the hardware store to help determine the most appropriate size tubing. Tubing is cheap enough to buy several one foot lengths in different sizes. Sometimes a hobby shop or aquarium supply will have clear tubes in the necessary size.

Other style carbs such as Mikuni 29mm smoothbore carbs also don't have overflow circuits.
The clear tube may be fitted inside a grommet that seats inside the hole at bottom of float bowl.

I don't have 29mm smoothbores, I have the stock 34mm Mikuini CVs on it with no hole in the bottom of the float bowl. Ill try using the drain method like in your previous post #642525. Thanks a lot. First thing Im going to do is see if the GS1100 34mm CV float bowls will bolt on for the float setting

I used a GS1100 BS34 Mikuni float bowl with the drain on the bottom with a nipple I bought somewhere years ago that screws into the drain hole on the bottom on my GPZ750 BS34s. I only have one so I had to keep moving the float bowl to a different carb but got it done

Woodman , measuring float heights with carbs out and at angle so as not to push needle rod just didnt work for me,
Clear tubing did perfectly.
Moving the float bowl each time would have been fun,

Its a PIA but you only have to do it once. I set them with the dial calipers first and they were right on the money. I have more Suzuki float bowls but only 1 tubing adaptor
