I am about to buy the K&N KA-7580 for my 1980 KZ750 LTD. Since I despise the solid as a rock rubber boots that go between the air box and carbs, i was thinking about designing and 3D printing a replacement box that mimics the original. The new box would have hose clamps on both sides of the 4 connecting hoses to facilitate easy removal. Does this filter work without re-jetting?

I wanted to do pods, but after reading about re-jetting I decided this might work better. Thoughts?

I would not go through all that effort. I would just buy new, supple air ducts designed for the bike. Ed

I used the K&N filter inside the airbox with stock exhaust without the need or re-jetting. Bike was just fine.

At $200.00 for just the boots, if I had access to 3-D printing I'd make my own just to get the experience :woohoo:
I also have been running a K&N filter in my stock air box since the 80's without re-jetting and have never had any trouble, and saved a pile of money that was put to better use...

However, if you have access to a 3d printer... it sure would be interesting project to do your own boots!

Yes Buy New Air Boots, and Intake Manifolds. As for the K&N, have a look into Uni Filters Oiled Foam. Fits into the Factory Airbox, and is way easier to clean than the gauze type filer. If you ride un-sealed roads it will filter better as well.

Read the whole description Ed very misleading to me , states 49.80 Each, then later states sold only in a set of 4.
Never clearly states 49.80 for a set of 4
Maybe it's just the too many dealings with unscrupulous sellers
This kept me from ever going any further in the ordering process :woohoo:
The ol 650 may be inline for a breathing transplant
Still I'f I had access to a 3D printer, I'd give it a shot.... It's the wave of the future and much much closer than most people realize
