Ok, so recently I did the pine-sol soak on my carbs. Afterwards, I proceded to spray carb cleaner through all the different passageways (according to the guide floating around here). Anyways, on my #1 and #3 carb it appears the idle circuit is completely clogged with something... I am assuming it is some of this white residue I was finding after I removed the carbs from the pine sol.....

When I plug the pilot intake, and blow on the hole for the idle screw, no air comes out the pilot jet hole..... Hope this makes sense to everyone. I am completely mystified on how to unglod this little passageway... I have tried boiling the carb in water, carb cleaner, and blowing on the hole with all my might, to no avail..... Ive also tried to get a pipecleaner in the hole, but it isn't a straight shot through, and I cannot get the wire to turn and get in the hole...

Anyways, has anyone ever run into this before? I am at a complete loss... It is almost looking like I will need to buy new carbs??

HELP!

Thanks guys

Usually it's the jet that is clogged not the passageway. Have you removed the pilot jet then checked the passegway?

Yes, all jets are removed. It is just the carb boddy left. I have the #1 Carb with me at work today. I will take a picture at lunch to show better what I am talking about, and where I think the clog is.

OK so here is a picture of one of the carbs...

When I plug #1, and blow into the air screw hole, nothing comes out of #3.... I am assuming something is blocking the passage around #2...... The only problem, it that it is impossible to get anything down there, on account of all the bends in the passageway.....

I am affraid to put any harsh chemicals down there, but I dont know what other option I have... PS. already tried compressed air...

Been looking at new carb bodies on ebay.....

Have you tried soaking it in carb cleaner like Gumout or similar?

You can also shoot cleaner in using a spray can/nozzle (use eye protection).

Yes, I've used about 1/2 a can of spray cleaner down there.

I will try some Gumout. Is there any ingredients that I should stay away from? Just don't want to do any more damage

**Gigantic Sigh Of Relief**

Took the carb down to the shop at work at lunch.... They had a nifty air tool with a rubber tip. Got a good seal on the pilot hole, and plugged the intake. Boom! All Clean.

Thank you all for the suggestions. I can sleep again.

After doing a bit more reading and looking... It appears my carbs are really pitted (see the attached picture in the post above)

How bad does this look to you guys?

Will I need to scrap these carbs. It doesn't look great to me. Any thoughts?

I'm not an expert but if it were mine I would put it all back together and run it. Whats the worst that could happen? It won't run right, leak fuel everywhere? No reason not to try them.

Is this a new to you bike you are working on? Have you had it running before?

If not and you get it back together and it doesn't run right don't immediately blame the carbs. That would be easy to do since you think there is something wrong with them. It would be first in your mind. But lots of other things it could be too.

What came out of the hole when you hit it with the air today?

No, it isn't a new bike. I was having issues with sticky floats last year, so I tried a pine sol soak. I left them in for 4 days not knowing of the corroding effect the pine sol would have on the zinc/aluminum.

When I took the carbs out, there was all this grey sludge in the bottom of the bin.. The insides of the carbs were a bit pitted.

You are right though. I will definately try them out. If all goes to hell, there are plenty of replacements on flea bay.

Oh, and it appeared to be some white gummy residue from the pine sol that blew out of the hole.

I've heard of the pine sol dip. Where did that come from? I saw a thread on another forum where it discolored the carb dark gray almost black in places! It's been awhile but I remember them saying to not do it.

Maybe its ok for a short soak?

Those are VM24SS? If so then yes, plenty of those on ebay.

Ya, I first saw it on the kz650.info site. It seemed like a good idea... 20 20 hind sight is a wonderful thing.

But yes, VM24 carbs
