I'm at work, it just dawned on me that I'd like to order a fork seal driver for my 1977 KZ1000.
Anybody know what size I need to order? Thanks!

Basically, I just need to make sure that I order the driver by the fork tube diameter....

So, I am replacing the seals on my forks too. Was looking for the best way to drive the seal into place. Stumbled across a you tube video that showed that if you buy one of those white under sink plastic pipes. You just cut them into 2ea 6" long pieces, then slit them down the side so they can be opened, you can just put one on the fork and the other one over the first covering the gap in the inner one. I used 2ea hose clamps to hold it in place on the fork. I used the old seal on top of the new one and slid the fork up and down and used it as a driver. Worked really well for me and can use it for any size fork. Really neat trick and was extremely cheap to make. Pipe, hacksaw, pipe clamps, old seal. You have to make sure to cut the ends off straight. Under the fork seal is a shim that needs to be driven in as well if it is removed. Trick for that is to allow the inner tube to extend about 3/8" lower than the outer and it will drive that in. For the bearing the video recommended allowing the outer tube to extend below so as not to catch the soft part of the seal. I just used the old seal so I wouldn't damage the new seal during driving it in. You could just check the video out for more details but it's an option.

Thanks for the info! I had already bought a seal driver. It was kind of pricey at thirty something dollars, but it'll get used enough over the course of my life. Actually, I wish I'd have bought one a lONG time ago.

...or depending upon your stanction diameter, a couple of feet of plumbers pvc waste pipe with the old oil seal placed on top of the new one, and whacking with a rubber mallet, works for me.

p.s. I noticed some ebay sellers are just listing the OD of the pattern seals, but the height is really important, between 8.5 and 10.5mm in 1mm increments. Had a bit of a head scratcher on this recently with some pattern seals that wouldn't accept the circlip retainer, despite much attempts at seating, but which it turned out the oil seals were 1mm too high.
