That link is a pic showing the set-up on my '78 GS1000. Some of the GS's have the bolt located under the points cover instead of above and slightly behind. It's either one or the other.

Nope, it's 14mm x 1.25

Could the MKII be different? My 14mm x 1.5 die fits perfectly. No slop at all.

I tried to look up your bike on bikebandit... I didn't see a listing for an MKII?? If you have a parts breakdown for your bike, compare it to other KZ1000's and 900's and see if the part number is the same for the oil gallery bolt or block off bolt. I have fitted many of those adapters on KZ900, KZ1000 and Z1's 74-80. They have all been 1.25 thread.

The MKII is the "A" model for 1979. It does have the same part number as the others for that plug. Maybe the 1.5 die fits the 1.25 thread since they are so close?? All of the adapters I was able to find were also 1.5 thread. I guess that 1.25 adapter is definitely a rare item.

Yes, rare. I couldn't find anything to work, so I have them made. Plus if you do find something, usually they are too long. There is a small hole that can get blocked if the adapter is too long. You can always drill and tap your existing bolt. I tried that, and it worked, but looked like crap (at least to me).

OK - Time for an update. I know it's been a LONG time, but I finally tried to install the oil pressure gauge kit that I bought and the bushing threads are wrong. I think I was right all along and they are indeed 1.5mm, not 1.25mm. The threads on my plug are visibly spaced farther apart than the ones on the bushing I bought. The plug I removed goes in easily by hand and the new bushing will not.

Can anyone confirm the thread size and tell me where I can get a bushing? This is for the 79 KZ1000 A3 MKII.
Thanks

I have learned that some of the Kawis have 1.25 threads, some have 1.50 threads. You have the wrong adapter. I sent you an email requesting your address, and I will send you the right adapter, no charge. Sorry for the mix-up.

Got the email - Thanks very much for taking care of that! I was hoping that my motor wasn't some one-of-a-kind oddball or that it wasn't tapped at one time. I'm glad to hear that a simple bushing swap will take care of it. The fittings and the guage look awesome! Real nice stuff. Can't wait to install it.:)

How about something like this?

oil pressure gauge kit

Also noted in description: "Attention: With all liquid filled gauges, you will get a false reading, or "zero" reading, on the gauge when the engine is running at operating temperature and the oil inside the gauge is hot. Pressure readings must be taken when the gauge and engine temperatures are relatively cool."

This is a picture of a VDO electric oil temperature sensor installed in my '81 GPz1100(1170 actuallyB)) and it is M14x1.5, no doubt about it. It fits perfectly because it is the correct thread type and size.
M14x1.25 is fine pitch, and also the Spark Plug thread type and size used in KZ's; check the NGK website. Try threading a Spark Plug into your oil gallery hole and see what happens:lol:  If it happens to fit, then you have M14x1.25; either way you will know for sure. Best of luck with your project!

You are welcome, the sensor is actually for a VW Bug, and also some Porche applications as well. The thread specification was the same so I bought one just to see if if would work, and it does! I also bought a VDO electric gauge, 0-300 degrees, and it functions perfectly. I got both together on flea-bay, new, about $80 bucks or so grand total, and they are very plentifull. Any VW performance parts house or VDO distributor would have them. I am fabbing-up an aluminum instrument panel with all VDO. My first ever "project" many years ago was a '68 Beetle and I still love them:) If you are building up an old Beetle, you use VDO:lol:
Best Regards,
Todd
