:pinch: Long story short, the #1 Camshaft cap was snapped on the bike today. I know its not the right way to fix this but it will have to do for now. Does anyone have a cap off a bad head laying around? I have DGR next week end and this is the only fix. I don't have time or budget for a new head.

As long as the bolts are holding and it's just split between the two bearings, it should be OK. The smaller fours have separate caps. You could have it welded too.

Like Steve said if it's just the bridge simply cut the bridge off both caps and bolt back on.

I wouldn't cut the "bridge". One locates the cam. It should be fine until you can have it welded. You can bolt two together with the locators in place and have the one welded. You have to grind the crack enough for the weld to fill all the way through and cool off.

Careful with that one. It keeps the cam from traveling left and right in the bore.

They are line bored. No two are exactly the same. One can be too tight or loose. They could be made to work but that would take time.

Yes, they are line bored so each cap is unique however, there is a very good chance that a different random cap will work just fine.

That is the correct answer to the situation. On two bolt caps like the 650 models, both bolt holes have a dowel pin. With a 4 bolt cap you only need two dowels in opposing corners because the bridge assures parallel alignment of the two bearings.
