My nerves approach melt-down at 10k, so I keep those encounters brief and few. :S 11k  !
Are sustained rpms at or above 7-8K ok while cruising?

No need for case boring or new liners etc and it's a proven upgrade.

Yeah I think I'll just do that. It's not like I have a ton of cash floating around to blow on the bike anyway, $340 for boring and another $340 for the head work, plus new pistons and overbore gasket, is a reasonable amount.

Should I do cams with the 1170? .410?

Imagine a set of RS Flat Slide carbs. :) .................. ...................

I'm running the 1170 kit in my 82 GPZ1100 with ported head, .385 lift web cams, 4 into 1 kerket kr pipe and rs36 carbs. The thing will rip you're arms off. It is very fast and gobs of power from idle to redlne, idles smooth and no flat spots. An absolute blast to ride.

Amazing that a tame pussycat and wild tiger can co-exist so well.

It helps that I have the engine in an 82 GPZ750 Frame and made it as light as I could, 420 lbs.

If you use an 84 head you should get the 84 pistons. Only problem with that is you need the 83/84 crankshaft with 18mm wrist pins. I would just go 1170 with he head you have now. Any cam above .375 lift will give nice power. .410 would be max IMO. That thing will run out great. Only reason to go bigger would be to just turn the throttle and roast the tire. Unless your on a racetrack I don't think sustained 7000+ rpm would ever be needed.
