So the engine has been out of the frame and I was gonna set up the timing again while it was out. I was trying to turn the timing nut and it's only making a quarter turn then it stops dead. I don't wanna force anything. Anyone know why I can't turn it? It's in neutral

If it's not in 5th gear, maybe the cam chain is loose and got stuck/bound?

Be sure to check the valve timing.

Removing the ignition plate from the RH end of the crank made it much easier for me to see the timing marks. You need to get the 1-4 pistons at TDC (1-4 T mark aligned with the mark on the cases), then look at the exhaust cam for proper timing. If that looks good then count the pins back to the intake cam.

You're right yeah I was dumb and tried turning it out of time. A valve was stopping it.

Food for thought...Now make sure that valve(s) isn't damaged. Valves are easily damaged that way depending on how hard you cranked on it while out of time...................................................Mike
