I am fairly sure my # 2,3 cylinders may have an exhaust leak/issue. 4:1 pipes seem loose at the head and can be moved a little. I have removed the pipes and found that some of the studs need replacing so I have ordered a whole new setup. I have the head off for some other inspection work and took the attached pics. Shouldn't the exhaust port be solid all the away around? Mine seem to have some degradation off the collar. Not sure if this is broken or ??. If this is broken is there anyway to repair? Can thicker gaskets seal this? Any help is appreciated as always.

Are you sure that there isnt a crush washer stuck there? Use a dental pick and see if it comes off, may be that simple.

Actually I am asking about the gap in the upper right hand side. It appears to me that part of the heads exhaust port is missing.

Sorry my mistake. Were there crush washers in there? Did it sound like it leaked? You said they felt loose, was a washer in it? It dose look like its missing a bit of material, I would think if its was tight with the washer it would be fine.

Yes I would agree. The exhaust port milling should have a continuous circular shoulder around it. Something happened there to take out a bite of metal in both # 2 & 3 ports.

I cant imagine what would do that.

I suspect both these exhaust ports had a leek. The head has now been removed. I am trying to decide if this head is trash or if it can be saved. Any suggestions. The original exhaust seals are of unknown condition as I just bought the bike. I have ordered a set of thicker seals 5mm vs. the stock 3mm all new hardware etc. I believe the valve seals are also bad but I do not want to spend any money on the seals if the exhaust ports are beyond repair

With new gaskets it will seal as long as 1/4 are OK and it is a 4/1 header. It could be welded but you have other things to worry about.

It almost looks like the bike went over a speed bump and the exhaust got pushed up and snapped portions of the casting.
I did this one time and luckily I just snapped one of the mounting posts.
