I predict you will be opening up a can of worms when you take the head off and end up changing the cam chain and cam chain tensioner after you remove the carbon from the piston tops. there might even be a few valves that look a little burnt. Probably not. I am hoping for the best.

Out of sight/out of mind can of worms. If it has cam chain rollers, they get hard and brittle then come apart. The rubber is to keep them quiet but after a year or so they get hard and noisy. The stock ones are crazy expensive and the Liska ones are 1/2 the price and will last a lot longer. Sure they make a whirring noise but so does any high performance motor. I see stock cam stuff on eBay and wouldn't take them if they were free. One broken cam chain, broken motor and broken heart. I've been there. It's a good idea to replace the chain but if it's a low mileage motor, you can probably get away with just the gears. You can buy a chain on Z1 with a peen over master link so you don't have to split the cases. Don't use a clip master link.
Do it right the first time and you won't be disappointed.

Simple Green is magic on cleaning and no fumes/chemical burns or damage to plastics/rubber....
Best hand cleaner I have found/use... ;)
