I have a '79 KZ400B
:(
I pulled the stator cover off to access the starter for removal. Is the stater a wet or dry? Bunch of oil came out...

Anytime you have the starter clutch attached near the alternator, there is usually a way for oil to get there (as the starter clutch needs it). But the oil is not needed by the alternator.

On the 650/700/750-4 and 500/550/400-4, the starter clutch is inside the engine, so the alternators are dry.

The 400/440 twins and 750 twins and 900/1000 have the starter clutch near the alternator, so they will spill some oil when you take the cover off.
