Hi guys,
There's a little plumbed out nub under my advance which I will assume I can use for a mechanical gauge. Anyone ever done this? If so, what setup did you use and where did you mount your gauge? I have removed the stock cluster and went with a small speedo/tach setup. I live about 15 mins from Summit Racing and I was thinking I might ride down there Friday to see what they have, but I figured I would check here first. I still have the stock oil warning light circuit connected.

Thanks,
Mike

Personally I wouldn't bother. Oil pressure is just a few (single digits) PSI so a gauge would be for show more than anything else. Whatever you do though dont let anyone tap and drill any holes for a gauge in your engine unless absolutely sure they know what they are doing.

gotcha! That indeed sounds like a waste of money. At least more of a waste of money than other parts LOL. I appreciate the input, i'll skip it :)

Only on the 900/1000/1100's with the roller bearing cranks. The 650/750 4's have plain journal cranks that require higher pressures but lower volumes.

I got an oil pressure gauge kit for my 750 twin many years back. As the kids say, it is what it is. Check the pressure but after that you don't need to watch it every day. It doesn't do anything very interesting.....

Yes, 550 /650/ 750 series were forged one piece cranks, up to about 70psi oil pressure. I prefer the idea of the bearing 'floating' on oil with no metal/ metal contact and a crank that can be rebuilt by an amatuer without special tools. In reality all the kz run so smooth and are so durable it probably makes no difference.

There is a factory oil pressure tester that attaches to the oil galley blanking plug below the points cover but it is more of a diagnostic tool to check pressure at idle and low rpm. One the motor is spinning fast excess pressure is bled off via the spring loaded pressure relief valve in the sump. The oil light is oil pressure, but on some later models is oil level.

Worthless and unnecessary bling perhaps, but I quite like the idea of seeing the oil pressure and am making one for mine.
