Whats the best sprocket chain combo for a KZ750 4 cylinder?

On my 750E2 I'm using a 530 conversion

JTR488.40 rear sprocket
JTF508.16 Front Edit: proper part is JTF513.16
These sprockets match the stock gear ratio.

530 chain with 102 links. (actually, you only need 101 links, but I went up and will adjust on the bike as needed when the chain is joined)

This is great information. Very timely as I am seriously looking at chain and sprockets and plan to order replacements this week.

Stock on the 1980 750E1 is 630 chain 84 links with 13 teeth front sprocket an 33 rear,
I checked mine today and find I have 36 on the rear. I like the combination. May be a little faster than stock on takeoff but then I am to old to be a boy racer so wouldn't really know
Not yet decided if I will stick with the 630 chain and sprockets and go with 530 conversion. If I do go 530 then I figure on a 43 tooth rear sprocket and 16 front

Any preferences regarding chain manufacturer? RK or DID ?

I just checked the JTF508 front sprocket on Z1enterprises.com and looks like it has a 6T spline pattern which will not fit the/my 1980 model. Oh. will keep searching

I've been VERY happy with my Tsubaki 530 o-ring chain. I have 21,000 miles on it and it has only required a tiny bit of adjustment. I use Maxima Chain Wax on it about every 300 - 400 miles or so (except when I forget ) I installed NOS Kawasaki sprockets when I installed the chain. Ed

For jcs027fly - I should have mentioned that my current combo has me at 5000 RPM at 60mph/100kph.

According to JT Sprockets you need a JTF513
This page lists every bike that uses that sprocket stock, but not every one that it will fit.

I just noticed that the JTF508 only fits Kawasaki two stroke triples.

So you guys are telling me I bought the wrong sprocket??? Humm, not good.

Edit: just checked and can't believe I ordered a 508. Some serious brain fart action going on here.

kz750 ltd h2 and I am using:

530 (JTF513 series) 17T front sprocket
> 530 (JTR488 series) 42T rear sprocket
> 530 Chain - RK 104 link 'X' ring

So over the Winter I ordered up new 530 sprockets and chain and put them on about 10 days ago when the temperatures went up to tolerable.

I went with a 16 tooth front and a 41 tooth rear. With the transition to 530 I was actually going to a smaller rear sprocket - I wanted lower rpm at 60mph/100kph - and had expected that acceleration from a stop would be reduced but I feel the bike is just a fast off the mark as always. I guess the lighter chain truly does mean more horses available at the rear wheel.

In short , this was well worth doing.

The gearing you need is very much dependent on how you plan on riding. Commuting in traffic, and you may want lower gearing. But long haul highway riding is the reverse - taller gearing is needed to avoid buzzing the motor at 75mph. If ride with a passenger or with loaded bags, the combined weigh may limit how tall you can go on the gearing as you'll be slipping the clutch too much pulling away from a standstill.
