So I have an windjammer on my 76kz900 and I wanted to remove it and go back to the stock headlight.

My problem is the fact that i have a oil coolant system installed to the windjammer. So before i bypass or spend hours manufacturing a custom bracket or the cash to buy a compatible bracket, how much do i need it considering i will be rarely riding my bike more than 45 minutes at a time in 110* weather max during the summer which is not extremely common in Sacramento ca?

if in decide to do away with it do i just cut the hose and run run it strait back into the port bypassing the radiator?

The stock bikes never had an oil cooler so I doubt it's mandatory. You can always change to real synthetic oil if you are concerned about oil breakdown.

"if in decide to do away with it do i just cut the hose and run run it strait back into the port bypassing the radiator?"

Not sure about that. I would think you'd want to go back to the stock fittings if they are available. I think the aftermarket coolers put a different fitting with hose at the location of the oil pressure sending unit out to the cooler with a return fitting and hose at the bottom of the oil pan (?)

I think the stock fitting is the same. I'm about to put a oil cooler on my bike. its a 77 KZ1000. I'll look to see if its the same part # and get back to you. Maybe we can trade some parts, or you can buy mine out right.

as much as I HATE referring folks to Partzilla, here is a link to the parts diagram if you want to do it right. www.partzilla.com/parts/search/Kawasaki/...HER+COVER/parts.html

You will need parts 2, 3,4,5,21 & 22

If you really hate that site, you can always refer to the official Kawasaki parts diagrams

i was not indenting on completely eliminating the oil cooler and windjammer, considering i may be riding from Sacramento to Portland next year when the bike is done, and i want to keep them for long rides like that.

EDIT: so, let me reiterate the question with some clarity, do i need the stock setup or will the bike be fine with just a hose?

Your cooler will mount up to the frame np. I'd keep it on. Always a good thing.
