I wouldn't try that if it was my bike because the 94 KZ1000 uses a hyvo cam chain. How did you determine you need a new chain? Do you know how many miles are on the engine? Ed

Over 25,000 miles here on my replacement Hi-Vo cam chain, with rivet master link. Kawasaki chain, and a good quality master. Can't see an issue if done correctly.
Lots of rivet drive chains out there, if that fails it may kill you and possibly someone else. If your rivet cam chain fails at least you can fix the motor. ;)

Nothing wrong with a split hyvo chain, if you do it right.

Done it myself years ago -got bored checking it, did at least 15k miles on that chain and still using it. But I understand the concerns of camchain failure. The weak link is the 'auto' tensioner that often sticks.

Loose camchains have a distinctive 'bunch of keys' rattle -around 4k rpm on the 550's.
