Lifter cover is more likely the term. I don't do bikes. I do cars. So this is all foreign to me

No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationNo problem. In that case just buy the correct gasket and be done. Here's one. Ed

Thank you very much. Now this still begs the question, would blowby cause enough crank case pressure to force this to leak?

Ok so I got my seals on the mail yesterday. When putting them on, would you guys recommend using RTV? I took the cover off and found that it was warped so I sanded it down level but I wanna know what you would recommend and what the torque spec is for that.

With very few exceptions, the gaskets on these old beasts should go on dry. Some folks will use a thin film of spray on Coppercoat and a really thin coat of Three Bond (aka Yamabond, Kawibond, etc) is called for in specific spots. As a General rule, rtv is a bad idea.

Since the cover is held on with a single small screw, very little torque is needed. Snug will likely be enough.

I really doubt if internal pressure is the problem here, unless the crankcase vent system (4, 5, 6, etc in the pic) is completely clogged.

Well the crankcase vent system is a tube from the case into the atmosphere and I feel quite a bit of air coming out of it. I don't think it's clogged haha. I have a ton of Hondabond that I grabbed at a yard sale a few days ago. But if you say it should go on dry then on dry it shall go. I'll try getting it on tomorrow morning. This oil leak is killing me. Only thing keeping me from getting her road legal.

So I figured out why it won't seal. Now, forgive the lack of knowledge for motorcycle terminology. It looks like the head protrudes out farther than the cooling head. Pic for clarification.

So just for the hell of it, I put the cover on and got this huge gap.

Wow. That's odd. I wonder if the upper part is from a different engine?

As far as I know as well as the previous owner, the motor is all stock and never been apart.

I think it is called a cylinder head end cap and if it is missing, I bet there would be a leak.

It all appears to be there. On the other side, the head is actually shifted the other way. But this side does not leak at all.
