I know the EX500 lump comes from the old 454 and I know that a lot of the old middling twins were largely interchangeable....but I don't know where in the line the 454 and the other 400's fall together.

I'm just wondering if any of the case geometry is the same. At least one of the rear mounts being the same would be very helpful, the rest could be "winged". Asking because I have an old 400 frame that needs an engine and a 500 engine that needs a bike...seems like they would make a nice couple.

I suspect you will find the KZ440 and EX500 crankcases are totally different. The EN450 (454 LTD) is not a KZ engine. It is a water cooled engine that is significantly different then that of the air cooled KZ440. I believe you will find its engine mounts will not align with those of the KZ440 frame. That doesn't mean it cannot be done, but it won't be a drop in. Ed
