I personally have the polished aluminum but id say it all depends on how the motor looks. But either way i would buy aluminum.

Buy Once, Buy aluminium.
You can get black anodised ones if you want them to blend in and look like the original rubber items.

I always used the OEM rubber ones installed with the little lip toward the inside of the head.
I never had one leak when installed in that reverse direction.
Plus that little splash of gold inside of them looked real good on the grey of my GunKoted motors!!

Bought once and installed 35 years ago . Never any problems. Especially with high power motors or boosted motors with higher crankcase pressures.
GO ALUMINUM. Cheap investment

The billet aluminum cam-end plugs can work well. However, they can be a problem on a few heads - most noticeably the earlier Z1 heads. Ideally the line boring for the cams would be a perfect intersection of the head and cam caps - but what you find is variations up and down on the machining - to the tune of over 20 thou on some heads. This means the cam-end plugs can sit high or low on these heads. If they sit high, the only thing you can do is remove a little metal from the upper surface of the billet aluminum. If they sit low, you have to put a thin bead of gasket goo to help seal them.
When I first bought my 1973 turbocharged z1, the bike came with RC Engineering billet cam-end plugs - and they sat high and leaked oil from that area. At first I thought they were just poorly made, but when they were installed in a kz1000 head, they fit perfectly. I checked 10+ heads in my garage, and was very surprised on the depth difference from head to head.

I like the alloy plugs (anodized black not blue).
There has always been two schools of thought, as regards to the sealing of these alloy cam-end plugs. One is to seal the circular part with part of an appropriate sized round section of an O-ring. The other, is to fill the vee groove with a sealing compound.
RegardZ.

I've turned oem rubber cam plugs with the lip inside the head and used the billet aluminum plugs......both work  I think the inverted oem plugs give a road race look to the engine........
