oil cooler value
04 Jul 2011 16:31
Took the KZ out for a spin today.Air temp97,heat index way over 100.When I returned looked at cylinder head temp gauge and it was registering 220 degrees-ouch. However on the return side of the oil cooler, oil temp was "only" 190 degrees.Still hot,but I cant imagine what the head temp would have been without the cooler. Not very scientific, but the coolers do work IMO.bj

With ya on that one....
Other then 30-40 degree oil temp drop to ideal operating temps... My biggest surprise was most likely due to the air deflection over exhaust ports resulted in huge cooling effect...
Of course, stop and go traffic, cooler doesn't do a damn thing... Yeah we get it....

OMR, not sure what you mean:
The addition of an oil cooler deflects air down to the exhaust ports on the head?

You can really tell how much heat it pulls out of my big bore motor in traffic. It pulls out a bunch of heat. In late spring & fall I leave the cover on the cooler.
