Nice chain tensioning tool. Wish mother Kawi didn't cheep out on this part and had a tensioning sprocket like the big bores.

Does the GPZ have a different clutch activator than the push-rod style on the Kz bikes?

Thanks, I was looking to shave some weight and didn't see how I could cut my cover up like you. Too much structural for the clutch actuator/adjustment. I've seen guys go crazy with a drill on the cover before, might be what I have to do if I feel it needs to be lightened - for now I'll let it go.

has few advantages to it:

one less seal to leak,

no rod destroyed if chain splits

smoother clutch action

not a big believer in cutting weight from already light ally parts..... how much do you think that whole cover weights? nowadays try spend my time where there's some real potential, weight savings vs. effort kind of thing...

I cut the cover off mostly to allow quick sprocket changes

Gotcha. All makes sense - that's part of the reason I figured I'd let it go - the cover didn't weigh that much to begin with. Thanks!

Hey TG - hope you don't mind the questions. You're my expert to bounce questions off of :)

What size battery are you using for your total loss system?

no problem DD glad to help

it's a 2.4 A/h, copes quite well with 30 minutes running time, actually I can do two sessions or more without a recharge.

but i do use a 90's gsxr ign box and coils which have pretty low consumption compared to a dyna.

a points system would consume even more

what ign are you running?

TG

Debating Dyna-S vs. stock points. Right now I'm thinking the Dyna-S for ease of use, but I need to test it first - it was a "found" unit in a free motor.

Wonder if the GSXR ign would work on the 650 too, I'll examine your photos a little closer and compare.

Are you running stock coils?

its gsxr , roughly anything 750-1100 from 88-95 will work, 750 will have 13K limiter, 1100 11K, so maybe 1100 is better

get:

rotor
pickup
coils
CDI
revcounter

need to make:
95mm plate to attach pickup in the cases
turn a small adapter for rotor
custom harness or reuse the stock wires

rotor is almost straight fit, had to turn a little collar due to slight diameter difference
pickup needs to be mounted inside the plate, rest is wiring really
if you get the parts, its pretty obvious,
timing is adjusted on the dyno, with my race motors *lots of turbulance creating squish( i run quite little advance, 25-28 fully advance, street bike with low CR would need more, bets test on dyno
