If you get that thing shook out and able to do the riding in "your" style....then there is no reason to worry about those liter bikes...they will be watching you to see where you are faster and waiting to hear you nipping on their asses in the tech stuff.....ride it right by em a few times and they will start moving off the racing line for you i bet...great job...enjoy it!!!

Nice to hear it fired and your efforts are rewarding you.

With the videos your showing a mixed pack... So I'm just wondering why a zx750 as your race platform of choice?

Look forward to a test report... :woohoo:

I was thinking the same, only thing that those videos arent mine :) they are corey's and i wouldnt race a zx550 against the bikes he does either ;)

its a strange thing that over there in No Cal they dont have any proper vintage racing class for a 550

I'll be racing mine in the open class in the italian vintage championship. I'll be a bit down on power in the full 1000c.c's KZ and GS, but the GPZ is much lighter so hoepfully in the tighter tracks it should give them a good fight.

You wish... there are some heavy hitters in the class, even some semi pros who are into vintage just for the fun.

I am pretty good but dont think they'll move off the racing line for me just yet.

New baby is out of the garage for the first time to do some dyno runs,

This afternoon we'll know what she can do...

Good luck with the numbers, and please post the results.

As for moving for the faster riders, rule #1 is maintain your line, and it's their job to pass you. Some may get you in the straights, but work on your corner speed, as that's where most are slow. It's you, the track, and your lap times, speed will come later.

You will get attention with that bike, can you deal with it?

Have fun, I look forward to reading about your racing experience.

OK, first results are in :)
just to remind what's in there:

810 wiseco kit,
block milled, head welded to 12:1 CR
number 35 andrews inlet cam, stock GPZ exhaust cam (need to shorten ex. valves by 0.5mm to use the andrews ex. cam, didnt have time for that)
107 lobe centers
GPZ head ports mostly cleaned in the bowl area. Prefered not to touch them until my flowbench is up and running.

29mm Keihin CR's, 125 mains, Eagle 4-1 exhaust with unknown brand oval race can (found in a swapmeet).

We did about 10 pulls to run in the engine and seat the rings and then let cool down.

First real pull gave 88.7 rwhp @ 9500. Not bad me thinks. told myself that i'll be very happy with 90 first time around, so got almost there :)

bike was rich all around, I just didnt have more dyno time available to start swapping jets, pretty sure it'll go over 90 with smaller mains.

Thunderbirds are Go!

Nice number. What rpm was peak torque? This is just as important as peak hp to keep the engine between the peaks on track.

Fun stuff, huh? :woohoo:

fun indeed, shame that there wasnt enough time to play a bit with settings and see the results

peak torque was 8 KgM (dont know in lbft...) was at 7300 rpm.

OK, quick update

not an easy weekend as in first two days of practice/qualifying it was cold and constantly raining.

in such conditions it was hard to understand how well was the bike going or do any setup or gearing, lap times were down 10-20 secs compared to dry times for everybody.

On top of it, the KR164 Dunlop rear i was using is REALLY bad in the wet, sliding all over the place

For race day on sunday weather got better, it was just odd to do my first proper, full on laps on a new bike during the race.... still, got a fifth place out of eight guys in my class. Nothing special but a decent first race considering the circumstances. looking fwd.

Will post a race report with pics when time allows, need to catch up with work after three months spent in the garage!

Cheers

Congrats on finishing 5th, and congrats for finishing. The fact that your first time on track with this was in the rain, and you stayed upright, means you are smoothe. It stayed in one piece means you are a good builder/mechanic.

I'll wait for the pictures, and video if you got any footage.

that's how the plasticine looks after squishing and cutting in the middle.

After welding the tapered area in the head, the wiseco piston has now a nice 1/4" wide squish area that should actually do something :)

put the plasticine bit in the fridge so it gets hard for measuring

030" was at the low end of what i wanted as squish, would have gone with 035" , so a bit risky even but I run out of time to procure a thicker gasket!

another last trick is something i've picked form Yoshimura who used to drill the head and block in strategic places to avoid pockets of hot dead air = improves cooling

fitting the CR29's was a bit tricky, found that stock KZ1000 rubber matched my carb stubs but the between the holes distance was 58 against 54 in the head! damn

crafted this simple screw adapter in delrin with offset holes, the countersunk screws bolt to the head, the black holes have M6 thread to take the boot screws
