It seems no one else is doing the coordinating for leg 3 so I'm volunteering. If someone else wants to jump in here, welcome.

I looked at Wendys Facebook page, but got locked out because I'm not registered. I don't do social networking sites. So pm me if you want to participate. I'll be PM'ing those participants in WI MN, IA, KS OK, MO, TX and any other states that might fall into this general corridor. Maybe ND and SD if there is anyone there. I could have done those last summer on my trip west.

For a start it looks like Wendy or Double Dub or both could pick up the flags from BlueJ58 (?) at the Illinois border. I could meet them near Madison and carry the flags north to the Twin Cities or further.
Lets get started on leg 3.

Cheese Castle would be great for me. It's also a landmark of sorts for photo ops.I thought you might like to avoid Chicago and go north to the Beloit/Rockford area to meet Wendy and/or DoubleDub. We'll let them chime in with their views.

I'm still hoping that some folks from Chicago get in .

Ahhh LSD. Brings back some memories. E,L&P wasn't it?

To get past Gary safely, either fly over it, that's my favorite way or go very fast thru it. But you don't have to go that way, go to Rockford first.

I can go to Rockford / Beloit if it helps with the routing, no problem

TomW, I'm at the western edge of Illinois, about half way between SE Iowa and Alton (St.Louis area).

I'm posting a copy of the PM I sent to riders on the 3rd leg.If you are planning on participating and your in one the states listed here and not on the Google map reply here so I can get you in on the fun.

I'm going to try to organize the third leg of the North American Relay. You've put your name on the map so I assume you are willing to participate. In order to come up with a suitable route I need some info from all of you. Let me know:
What you are riding.
Days or dates when you are NOT available to ride.
How far are you willing to go, there are a lot
of empty spaces in the mid-west.
Could you do an overnight or maybe 2?
How early in the season could you start? The east coast leg is starting about the middle of March.

This should be enough to get me started. I'll be PM'ing everyone with updates as I figure this out.

Got a couple of answers to my PM. I'll post them here so everyone on the 3rd leg can peruse.

I will be riding a 1982 KZ650CSR. I live in Houston, Texas.
I plan on taking vacation time in order to do the event, so most any day, as long as I know ahead of time.
I would prefer to limit my distance to less than around 600 miles - so that may mean that the actual leg that I ride is shorter than that - presuming that I will need to ride back home after handing off to the next rider.
Am willing to do an overnight.
I can start most any time now.

Waaay down there in Houston huh? You are at the end of the second leg. The anchor man, possibly sharing those duties with BSKZ650 who is in the Houston area also. Good to know your taking vacation time. The next stop after Houston may well be Albuqurque, NM. a mere 848 miles from Houston. Do that in an afternoon, eh. Maybe a good day for an Iron Butt ride. I'll keep in touch. Dates are only vague guesses now. The only date I know of is the relay starting in Miami about March 12.

dates not aval, thats kind of hard to answer not knowing any type of schedule or route
an over night may work again, kind of need to know when it may make it down here

Hi Bobby,
I know it's hard to schedule when you don't know when the flag is going to get to the 3rd leg. All I know is they are starting in Miami on March 12. You are at the end of the 3rd leg along with WABBMW, Bill. You two should get in touch with each other to see if you can work on a plan. The preliminary plan in my head has the flag going south to Central OK where OKC_Kent lives. The Houston guys have to get it from him and get it to gravit8 in Albuqurque NM. That's a lot of miles for two guys to cover. It's the longest segment of the 3rd leg. We'll figure something out. Thanks for getting back to me.

I'd love to take part, but my summer schedules are always a mess. Do we have any approximate dates so far? If not, I guess I'd be better off stepping back and trying to tag along with someone for part of a route if I can.

Sounds like a great 3rd leg, I was hoping you'all would end up in NM. I'm thinking Leg #4 (Rocky Mountain Leg) would run up from NM,CO,WY,to the guys in Montana. Kind of rough, but I'm open to input.

I'll keep an eye on your leg and once it solidifies, start shaking the bushes along the front range.

I might want to do a stretch on the Rocky Mountain leg. My mom lives in Las Vegas NM and I promised her a visit this summer. I'll be riding my Voyager XII then, but it's an old one! Maybe just ride along with some others.

I had the same attitude. Still do. I registered just to read what WendyS had put up. I prefer to keep most if not all communication here on the forum so all can see whats going on and contribute more to the planning.

i brought the wife up to speed on the way in to work this morn.

she's all in so when it gets closer we can make definate plans.

we live in skiatook (tulsa area)which is north east oklahoma.

we will be riding a 1980 kawasaki kz1000 z1r.

we can do an over night but probably not two.
