WABBMW wrote: OK the plan is set for this Sunday, Oct. 21st. I will ride from Houston to Alexandria, LA on Sunday morning. BlackZ1R will ride from Florence, MS to Alexandria the same time. The handoff will occur a little after Noon. We will probably do lunch, tell some war stories, and take some photos, plus whatever points of interest we can find. After the flag is handed off, etc., we will each ride back home that afternoon. Full day of riding, but we both have to get back due to things to do on Monday.

Let the good times roll !

Outstanding! This is history making. Leg 2 to Leg 3. Hope you guys have a safe trip. I've PM'd Mine20 in San Antonio. If the flag goes west he might be the next connection. He's been working on a cafe racer with a KZ650. It might be ready to ride, but will be a short range bike. BSKZ650 are you ready to roll? You are the next in line, then OKC_Kent if the flag goes north.

As far as direction goes: going west to keep things moving sounds good. However there is not any riders till Colorado and the weather will probably make that connection difficult if not impossible. It's up to the participants if they can make the connections, but I've traveled through the areas to the west of Oklahoma City and just last week through Texas and it's getting cold!

My feeling is go north and east to include as many riders as possible till the weather stops everybody cold. (PUN INTENDED!)The distances are short to cover about 6 riders if there no 1 or 2 week delays. We should be able to get the flag into Missouri, maybe around St. Louis before the big chill. (more pun) Then sit on it til spring. Move up thru Illinois into Wisconsin and Minnesota, then west to N.Dakota and S. Dakota and south to Iowa, Nebraska and Kansas before heading west to Colorado. That puts the flag in the western states in late spring or early summer to complete the journey next year.

Just my thoughts. Of course it's pretty much up to the individuals on the course. How say you all?
Tom

I was planning on picking it up this year from N0NB and heading North, but I can for sure collect it from an IA rider, take it through NE and then down to KS next year. I'm still in for sure!

WoooHooo!!!!!! :woohoo: Just got in a little while ago. Leg #2 is now complete.
Passed the flag to WABBMW in Gardner, LA. this afternoon around 1PM for the conclusion of leg#2 and the beginning of Leg#3.
Whew what a ride! We put 643 miles on them on nice twistie forest roads and very little hiway. My 16 yo son was with me on this adventure, riding the LOW BUCK 550 LTD!!! :woohoo: :) :cheer:
Bill(WABBMW) rode up from SW Houston, TX. to pick up the relay on his super clean'82 CSR650.
I'm beat. I'll put up some more pics in a link to my photo bucket account later with more of the story.
We had a ball camping and riding in the Kasatchie National Forest. One section is called the Kasatchie Hills. We now call it the "Kawasatchie Hills". 17.5 miles of nice twisty road with plenty elevation change to make it rather interesting. ;)

The flag traveled 125 miles on the pickup and 220 miles on the handoff. For a total of 345 miles on this relay.
I had 895 total miles in the relay rides, and really enjoyed being a part of it.
Have fun with the rest of the relay and God Bless every one involved. :cheer:

I had a great weekend with my 16 yo. son riding the LTD550 we picked up for low dollar. The bike performed flawlessly, with only a chain adjustment that we over looked on the outset. No sweat.
Both bikes performed perfect. I swapped out the tins from my LTD1000 for this tour. I'm the worst when it comes to scratching paint, so my cherried out '78 tins are boxed up at home. The 1000 carried the load with authority averaging 40+ mpg. The 550 averaged 60+ even with some spirited back country riding from us 'sippi boys. :woohoo:
Camping weather was perfect, locals were super friendly, park officials were a HOOT, and there was even a live band at the lake pavilion Satty night for the Fat Tire bike club meet this weekend.
Bill was pretty keyed up about the whole KZRider flag relay and I really had planned on him coming up on Satty to camp and ride all weekend. The ride he made up from Houston and back was huge. Hope you're doing well today Bill :) . I know I'm pretty well beat, but it is a good feeling. :cheer:

Oh flag where are you now? You need to get in gear and ride! C'mon guys, lets get it moving! Or at least talk about it.
1982 GPZ 550 piped and jetted, stupidly loud at 10k rpm
1982 GPZ 550 resurrection in progress, eta April 2014, stock form for discretionary quiet time
1991 ZX11 parted out, this one carried the flag 300+ miles, unfortunately wiring harness melted and parting out was the only option, she was great
