No problem about Savannah Marc, it would have been nice if we could have done it there, but at this point, location is not a priority anymore. I will be making a concentrated effort on the brakes in the next couple of days. Once complete, I will contact you and Boostable to set up a date for the hand off.

Hey guys, thanks for your patience so far. Tomorrow will be the day when I'll know if I can make it for the relay or not. Plan on taking a day off to finish things off. If I can't make it, Boostable my have to mail it to JyDog. Sorry, 35 year old bike that hasn't run in probably 12 years if not more. The bike ran very well on my test ride around the neighborhood Thursday, but the next day died on me when trying to go out on the open road. Fortunately, I only got about 1/8 of a mile from home. So pushed it back (hills and all). I took a look at it today and saw debris in the tank (have a filter with some debris in it). But I figured it was just a low fuel issue and gave it gas and installed new battery (old one didn't hold charge) and its back to where it was before. Somewhat o.k., cylinder no. 2 is not getting too hot for the short 5 min I ran it. Which is strange, because Thursday it was no. 3 that was not so good. Couldn't do much else this weekend. Yesterday I trid to do some adjustments on the back brake. Found out why it was getting stuck at the bottom: Broken brake pedal spring. Ordered one from Z1E. But that should not stop me from riding as long as the front brake is good. I will look at the front brake tomorrow (currently it has about 65% front braking). So that's where things stand. Will post tomorrow with the news.

Thanks Boostable. Yeah, had to keep it low key this Easter weekend and concentrate on the Family. But sneaked some time in here and there. Bike feels strong, even with that weak cylinder. Just need things to go well tomorrow. I sent Kawickrice a PM since he would like to pick the flag from you. Sounds like he now has his bike ready to go. So that is good news. We can make any sort of arrangements after he has it as far as getting to JyDog.

dcmspikes, here is some instructions I posting here again in case there others who are interested as well.

Click on the link to the map on my signature to take you to the map. But you will need to have a Google account and signed into it in order to be able to edit the map and put your pin onto the map.
1. Zoom in to the city or town you are located first.
2. You will see a red "Edit" button on the top of the left window pane. Click on it.
3. On the upper left side of the right window you will see the blue pin. Left click on it once.
4. The blue pin will get highlighted. Then left click and hold this left button down while dragging the pin to your desired location, then let go.
5. You are offered the opportunity to input a title (your moniker and location if you like) and a brief description.
6. Left click the OK button and then the 'Save" button on the left window pane.

You can always go back and edit if you make a mistake.

Sure you can participate, if you live that long. At the present rate of advancement, the flag should reach So. Cal. at the end of Mitt Romneys' second term. There are about 90 pins in the map. At minimum 5weeks per rider, assuming it moves again tomorrow, that's 8 years and 7 months. Plenty of time for planning. Have a nice day. :)

I know it's a tough go here at the start but let's keep a positive outlook and hope that it picks up speed as it goes. Unless I'm on another MC rally ride or something when it reaches my area, I'll meet the relayer that has it the first weekend after he has it. If the one after me is ready for it the following weekend then it will be passed along then, I plan to move this thing in 7 days or less, this of course is barring any monsoon or it's in the dead of winter. :S

Maybe some incentives like "awards", or I guess a better term would be "titles". Something along the lines of...

~Quicky - Shortest time in possession of the flag.
~Sloth - Longest time in possession of the flag.
~Long Haul Trucker - Longest distance covered as carrier.
~Tramp - Most states traveled through.
~Outlaw - Highest ticket fine paid.

I don't know, maybe some friendly intra-relay competition will help keep things moving. Some of them could be something to strive for, some of them could be things to avoid...

Plan is for the flag to move this Saturday and into GA the following weekend (or sooner if can be agreed upon). I figured people would be getting a bit annoyed by now and understandably so. But please keep in mind that if the flag started up north, it probably would not have been possible to start until sometime in May. And I would guess there are still many people along the way that do not have their bikes ready. So they have a lot more time to get ready. Please know that the delay was not from a lack of serious effort. I feel once it makes it to an area of having a higher concentration of riders, things will really speed up.

Guys, it's not a RACE, just a combined group effort RIDE to move the banner across the USA, using as many vintage bikes in the hands of as many members as possible - if it can be done all this season, great - if not, carry over to next - TIME isn't the priority, GROUP EFFORT and comradery IS!

Hey, Ernie, I hooked five of 'em with one cast. Not bad, 'eh? :woohoo: ;)

Seriously, I know it's not a race, but if it takes 'forever' to move, the level of interest will die off and people will just forget about it, make other plans for their weekends and when their turn comes they won't be available to ride. Then other arrangements will have to be made adding more delay. I think a minimum amount of effort can move the flag within a week, two at the most, depending on distance needing to be covered. 100 miles can be covered in two hrs. making a weekday ride possible if the rider isn't working 12 hrs. a day. As far as rider density goes, the east coast leg IS the most densely represented leg. Look at the west. Some rides are going to be very long. I like Freemole's idea of unofficial awards for various categories of performance. A little friendly competition can make it a lot more fun. JMNSHO
