I'm not ashamed of the Yamaha engine. It saves me a fortune on oil as well. The old zed engine sits in the corner of the garage next to another FJ motor (very cheap). They should keep me on the road for a good few years yet.
The dutch MK2 rear wheel is actually a KR1-S twostroke rear.I'd be interested to see if the Fzed Racecrafter will out grunt a dark pink zrx 11. |

The use of the word 'imposter" wasn't intended to be derogatory, although the use of that word typically is. I was implying that at a quick glance most wouldn't notice the Yamaha motor I had plans to do an "imposter" with an old air/oil cooled GSXR motor, but I decided to put it in a GS550 and do a GS1000S rep with it. I agree with the cost reasoning. The GSXR motor was way cheaper than doing a 615 kit on a 550, and I get 90hp instead of 60. Doing a 615/GPz550 motor would have cost over $1500 with headwork/cams/lightened crank. I bought a complete/crashed Katana750 for $600. I bet the motor is probably lighter too. Those FJ motors were strong, over 100hp IIRC, with great torque too. KR1-S wheel on the blue bike, I have a complete KR1/KR1-S rolling chassis laying around some where. That uses an 18x4 Rr wheel, and 17x3 Fr. |

i guess from a riding perspective the cheaper use of another brands motor is justified for sure...and the time honored tradition of grafting engines and frames is for sure in good taste....plus the bottom line- around here at least -,is, "my bike, my choice" !!!! so who cares...if folks dont like it ,oh well,no loss of sleep for me.....
i would turn my car around in heavy traffic and back track a few miles if i spied that thing curb parked around here just to see it ---and stand there ten minutes but compared to the art of a Z1 hunk imo that motor is fugly..... poor yamaha...having to copy the Z1 artists to sell a motor... they do so well when they copy too.... XS 650 R-5 FJ-1100 Virago all top sellers and lineage starters in their own right.... |
