I just picked up this garage find for next to nothing. I told a guy I would get his 04 Suzuki Intruder 800 running and put in a new clutch and he gave me this KZ for the labor! You can bet I jumped on that deal....

So far I know it needs carbs cleaned, brakes un-stuck, tires, maybe a chain and sprockets and a battery...
Don't fix it until it's broken.

Only took me about a second to agree to that deal. This is my second KZ750 so I'm looking forward to riding it. I also have a KZ1100 but my son rides it all the time and I never see it!

Nice score, I have a 1980 model, and its my favourite of all my Ltd's. its quick, agile and not as heavy as my other Ltd's.
I have a 1980 Kawasaki KZ750 Ltd. I bought new. I recently managed to get it out of my garage after 28 years and put it on the road again (2010). I feel like a kid all over again. Since I have acquired 3 78 KZ1000 Ltd, 1 1981 KZ1000 Ltd, and another 1980 KZ750 Ltd. Love the LTD's.

I see I have some work ahead of me. The battery looked pretty new so I topped it up with distilled water and put it on the battery tender overnight. Installed it then went to hit the start button. Not working so good:

Finally got around to working on the KZ750 and I pulled and cleaned the carbs. Found 3 of the overflow tubes cracked so I soldered them up and replaced all 4 float valves. Thank you Z1 Enterprises. Just for reference I preset the floats to 24mm and that proved to be a good guess as the clear tube showed them well within the spec of 4 +- 1 mm

Bench checked for leaks and non found I put the rack back on. FYI all 4 air cleaner boots were rock hard but I soaked them in Xylene and Wintergreen Oil overnight and that revived them back to new condition. Hooked up the IV fuel source and it started right up. Sync gauges showed only #4 off a little so it was and easy sync. Someone had installed a Dyna igntion but I checked timing and it was spot on for both 1&3 and 2&4.

In the video you hear me mention "Chris". He is my nephew and he builds custom bikes. I was at his place yesterday tuning up a 69 CB450 he had just got running. I set the points/timing and synced his carbs. That is a really nice running bike now.

Here is the video of first start up and run after syncing the carbs.

Well it's running and almost put all back together. I still need to put new tires on it but I have the brakes rebuilt and carbs and especially the wiring sorted out and working.
