My GPZ1100 hybrid is now running so I thought I would share some photos. It obviously requires a new paint job and a few finishing touches.
I took it out on its first ride today and was not disappointed.
The stats are -
Engine GPZ1100B2 totally like new (I bought it off a wreck 30 years ago minus the head) - approximately 80kms when crashed. It is totally stock apart from Z1000J head, GPZ1100A cams.
Carbies - ZRX1200 (same as my Z1R)
Frame - Z1000J with mono shock GPZ900R swingarm/ Shock.
Wheels - CBR1000F
Front end - GPZ900R
Misc - Speedo is a speedhut (with fuel gauge) added the GPZ1100A gauges, lithium battery, LED lights etc

I had lots of spares, body work, engine , front end so the cost to date was $4K total, this includes a new Marving pipe and Speedhut speedo, wheels, frame (as is), chain etc.
I starting building this in November 2015.

I couldn't stop smiling after my ride today, whatever I thought/ hoped it might be was soon verified.
PLEASE ADD COMMENTS ABOUT THE PAINT COLOUR YOU THINK WOULD look great on the bike - so far I favour metallic Grey - dark, with a mixture of different blue interwoven lines - similar to my Z1R (last bike of the month)
First Permanent ride the Z1R since Dec1977 (220,000km) as of June 2015
Second permanent bike 1989 FJ1200 dyno'd 140RWH, great bike.
Third ride is now the Frankenstein 1981 GPZ1100B1, getting new/ refurbished 83-84 motor soon
Forth my work bike FJ1200 1989 (same type as above)

Thanks for looking. The headlight is an LED, draws a maximum of around 20W. The halo light is great for day time but the low beam is not that good, if I were to use this at night the low beam would be crap. The high beam with the 4 LED's is very bright and would equal a normal HID output (to be verified - my Z1R has a HID CIBI).
I had minor issues after my first ride, it appears the master cylinder from the GTR1400 doesn't like the extra output required to run the antidive on my forks (I checked this by clamping the lines one side at a time) so I have to do a bit of homework otherwise my brake will be a bit spongy. Other than that it rides and feels great, I only had a short ride because my rear disc was rubbing badly (I had a bit of crap in the brake line which prevented the pads from returning).

531, thankyou for your comment, shame, I am like a woman in a dress shop when it comes to paint colour, I have so far gone from dark grey, light grey, green, same blue as seen, and now back to grey AAAAAAAAAhhhhhhhhhh ,

How about a dark silver with pinstripes tying the front fender across the tank, side covers to the tail?

Worth considering, thankyou, the grey I was referring too is a metallic silver/grey, my bad. Would the stripes you suggest be actual pin stripes (similar to the Z1R or something similar to the Jaffa Z1 stripes?

I was thinking a combo. If I get some 75 decals, I think I'd do away with the black along the top. Too much. If I ever get a KZP to Z1 out, I'd have a front end like Jon and Davido but have some stripes on the fender to break up the size of it. Nice to watch these guys build their mods and dream about how I would finish off mine. B)

Liking your build man. Just reading about your colours, I have had this pic on my fridge for years, I thought it might give you an idea of grey even if it's not the best quality.

What about a gun metal grey with high metal flake in it to really pop in the sun, with the pin striping Steve is referring to?

Bloody hell that's a nice looking GPZ and colour, it is something I had in mind.

650mod, I can only dream about a paint job like that, because I'm on a budget I will be doing the painting. I painted my cars many years ago so I will be a bit rusty but I have the right gear for the job.

By the looks of it the metallic grey is the favourite colour, Unless another excellent suggestion comes up that will be the colour. Thankyou all.
Once the painting is finished (in the next few months) I'll let you know how it went.

For a paint scheme suggestion - check out the Canadian Blue / Silver - Blue '84 KZ1100R. Photo I "borrowed" from a KZR forum topic. Somewhat understated, but when you see one in the metal, definitely an eye popper and way nicer than the green ELR, in my opinion. Your bike has the same lines, so it should be easy to mimic.
Also check out the A.C. Sanctuary website for ideas - their builds are 100% to die for.

Awesome bike - great build. Like the Marving pipe - first one I've seen on a big Kawasaki "Zed" outside of Europe.
