I have an 81 kawi kz 750 four cyclinder that i would like to turn into a bobber-ish style cycle. Any and all ideas and info would be greatly appreciated. I'm new to the cycle world but know what i would like. Pods, 4 to 1 exhaust, solo seat, and possible lowering the seat. Ive heard alot of nightmares about pods. Any suggestions? I thought it was a 750e but under the seat says 750f, what or where do i find the real subletter for parts to order, etc? Any and all help w ok uld be greatly appreciated, thank you.

The 750E is a Standard chain drive model, while a 750F is an Ltd shaft. 750H = Ltd chain drive.
To figure out what bike it is try CycleChaos.com -->> List of Kawasaki motorcycles.

Is the motorcycle currently running & rideable? I would get it running perfect before doing anything to it. fuel tank & petcock. airbox/air filter. clean carburetors. ignition system checks/maintenance. valve clearance check. tires & chain. etc.

CV carburetors can be difficult to tune for individual pod filters, so you could end up with a lot of down time trying to get it to run right. Instead of a bobber, I'll suggest a cafe racer instead or keep it stock, depending upon what model it is. :)

I agree with martin; get the bike all sorted out and running properly before chopping the thing all to shreds. There are a bazillion hacked up bobbers/cafe bikes littering craigslist already, but relatively few nice usable older bikes. It will be a more useful bike and worth more money if you keep it original. Pick up a half finished bobber and complete the project if you just must punish yourself. At least that way something positive will come out of it all.

Nessism is absolutely correct. Even though it's your bike and your money a mistake is still a mistake. ;) Ed

Bike runs great, has been gone through from top to bottom, pretty much frame off. New sprockets and chain. Transmission was changed to an 80 650 i believe, to turn it into a 6 speed. Dyna jetted carbs and stainless steel hardware kit throughout. Red koted tank, new cables, calipers rebuilt with new shoes, valves all checked, etc etc, guy rebuilt the bike over the winter, and i bought it, he went the super bike route.

As far as I know all KZ650's were 5 speeds. I understand KZ550's were 6 speeds. and it is possible to put them in a 650 case.

The VIN's starting segments (on the neck) distinguish the actual model. Engine #'s can also be traced to their original model origins if questionable. .................................Mike
